Hi there SE IMAC'ers,

Just wanted to say hi from the freezing Northwest in Idaho. Since we can't fly this time of the year and for another couple months we spend our winters building and planning our IMAC contests. As a new CD and host for our local contest, I wanted to do something new or different for our contest. Anything any of your contests do in your region that is unique and fun beyond the standard iMac contest. I was thinking of adding a night flying freestyle event and possibly a small airshow at lunch from a local full-scale stearman pilot? also, any cool prizes or awards anyone has done in your neck of the woods beyond the wood plaques we all throw in a box? We did embroidered jackets one year for first place winners, but the cost was a bit high.

Thanks in advance for any ideas and letting me hijack your thread.

When I CD'd a few contests, I ran a "Killer Unknown" contest - just 3 figures. First: center figure that is crazy-hard, sometimes not legal per the rule book, and a few levels above the competing pilot. Second figure is a simple turn around (e.g., hammerhead). Third figure is the same as the first - forces the pilot to fly the same figure in both directions. For example, in Advanced one year I had a four-roll rolling circle: in, out, in, out.

Just be clear that this is a separate optional contest and in no way affects the scoring of the IMAC contest. We had a great time with it, everyone was on the line cheering the pilot on.

Those look like sodas though.... You sure there was no beer involved? Any other highlights from your local contests? The 3-maneuver unknown sounds fun.

Only sodas during the day when flying is going on...beer comes out after the transmitters are put away.
