My First Design . . . Updates!

Okay guys,
Here are some updates to my design. Got the vertical fuse/horizontal fuse cut and glued. Stab is also glued on. Drag plate holes are cut, along with the "twist" braces for the fuse. Going to glue wings to fuse tomorrow, and hopefully start adding my carbon fiber to the plane tomorrow night. We shall see . . .

Pretty cool Seth. Interesting lines and some definitely interesting features

One piece of advice - Airplanes are rarely right the first try out. Don't be afraid to re-draw, re-cut, re-think anything about the design. Also, be wary of new design 'halo effect'. Every new design seems great, but if you really get to flying it, you'll find things you can improve. Then you will make it truly great!!!

Already finding changes to make to the design:

Going for a smaller airframe on the next one. This one has a 33" wingspan and 35" Fuse length. Gonna go with 28" wingspan and 30" fuse length. Wing chord (overall) is going to be reduced 1-2", Interplane strut chord will be reduced as well. Distance between wings will be around 1-2" smaller.

Weight on this one so far is 2.5 oz with wings, v fuse, h fuse, carbon rod landing gear, wheel pants. A good bit more than I was hoping for. I was shooting for 2-2.25 oz - complete airframe. I still have to add the carbon strutting in wings, and possibly the "twist" braces for the fuse (depending on how much it twists on the maiden).

Looking as if all up weight will be around 6 oz with the battery - Not exactly what I was wanting. I was hoping for 5 oz or less RTF . . .

May be more than you were shooting for, but go ahead and finish it to see how the aerodynamics work out.

Don't forget glue joints as a source of weight. Long glue joints take lots of glue....
