BodyWerks is rihgt on on the knifeedge coupling. You can bury the rudder and do a sliding high alpha knife edge and the stupid thing doesn't couple any more than if you are flying 3/4 throttle and give a very small input to do a point roll. It definetly inspires confidence to get real low with it.

Norman:

Did you get "used" to the APC prop noise?

How much of that is the whole, highly-strung (taut covering) airframe acting like a huge sounding board?

You do somewhat get used to the noise, but I think it is like you said, mainly the covering making the noise. Snap it, hover it or high alpha knife edge it and it makes a lot of noise. I don't like it, I just don't know how to get rid of it.

You can go with one of the new Xoar electric props and pretty much get rid of that. It is what I am using on my AJ and Inspire 60 and love them!

About a minute of that was torquerolling, and I did a couple rolling loops and a spinning maneuver from altitude that also took a bit of power. Moderate flying will yield about a minute longer in flight time. Personally, I am going to go with the Great Planes/Hyperion 3200's when I get more batteries. I already have two of them and they weigh almost exactly the same but yield around 10 minutes of decently hardcore flying.
As for roll coupling, there is some, but it is negligable. It's so low that I don't think it can be mixed out. What else is nice is that the roll coupling and pitch coupling, if any, is consistant throughout the rudder deflection. In other words, it has the same coupling (practically none) in a high-alpha KE as it does on a low rate KE. You're gonna love it!
It's going to be a while before I get one of these. I got the FG Foamy and the Fliton Inspire Mini to work on right now.

Har! I don't like that sound either, from the videos. Reminds me too much of years gone by, when a fluttering sound sometimes meant bad things to follow...soon!

Thank you guys for this thread. I'm about to buy one of this Extras. I'm still not sure what set up I want to take. Please post your set up, motor? servos? Battery?
Thank you very much!

Here's a vid of my AJX on its first flights.

https://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery...=21498&cat=508

My setup
Hacker A30 10XL APC 13 x 6.5 E
CC Ph 45, Park BEC
Fliton 4S 2150 20C Lipo
HS 81 ail, elev, HS 81MG rudder

Built it pretty much stock, and it came at
50-51 Oz.

This is the best plane in the 40-60" size I've flown. I think it even flies better than my 50CC planes.

Doc! Great video dude! The AJ is a TON of fun, arguably one of the best out right now.

Thanks Max. This is a really sweet flyer and has let me gone lower than I've done with my other planes. So are you flying the FG scheme, or saving that one for the office ?

what kind of flying time are you looking at with the thunder power 3S 2200mAh? or what would be the best battery for a 3S setup for about 10min flying time?

FG AJ stays in the office. This is the highest I'll ever let her get off the ground. I've been flying the crap out of Brett's however

3DCrazy,
You'll need at least 500W with this plane, most are running 4s at 600-650W. With a 3s TP 2200X pack @ 45amps you should be at 500+ watts, however the flight time will be around 6-8 minutes depending on throttle management. To get 10 min. flights you would have to go to batteries in the 3000+ mAh range but then you would be adding weight. I think Andrew has been testing some different motor/battery/prop combos and might have an answer for your needs. I'm sure if you PM him he'll get back to you with some suggestions.

Nick (Bodywerks) likes the EVO 2500. I still think that 4S is really the ticket for this plane, if you're starting from scratch.

Max, thanks for the care package. I'm looking forward to receiving it, and the FG decals will definitely be prominently displayed on my AJX. I like the new photo feature. It's really cool.
