89 Slick weights to compare engines

Hi Guys
Can you find out from the guys flying 89 slicks what they weigh and which gas engines they are using an with which props ? I am having trouble pulling out of a hover it is very doey on pull out, love the plane as it rock steady in hover , but at 8.6 kg the 3w55i on a canister swinging a xoar 3d 22b does not seem to have the pull out . once it starts to move it has unlimited vertical but the pull outs are just to slow to be safe. just lucky this plane is rock solid
thanking youOutbackdean

I never weigh mine and I'm sure it isn't the lightest it could be, but with a DA-60 w/canister and Falcon CF 24x9 it has no problem coming out of a hover.

29-9? You mean 23-8?

The solution to fast pull out is a smaller diameter prop. Engine spools faster, and puts out more thrust. Of course, the whiners with no throttle control ability complain about prop rip, but a smart pilot can throttle down.

Still, 22lbs seems a little high. You have a 40% power system in that plane?

Or you can stay with the same diameter prop, just less pitch. That makes a bigger cone of prop wash for your ailerons in 3d.

Could also be your engine isn't tuned for peak power.

My flying buddy had an 89 Slick with DLE-55; it pulls out of a hover fine here at 4500 ft elevation.

Funboy raises a valid point. Mine was a 18lb and change with a DLE55 and Pitts muffler. I would address all that extra weight and what you have that is not needed or overkill for that size plane.

Any 60-70cc with a couple pounds lost will give you blistering performance from what you are used to.

Maybe have to check the weight
the only extra weight would be flight and ignition batteries which are only 3x2100 li-ion weighing 75g each and the 3w canister which would be about the same weight as the 3w muffler .
no spinner , wood prop , no wheel pants , Fourtitude 16 OZ square gas tank and hv savox servos with secraft alloy arms , futaba 8ch 2.4 receiver and a smart fly ingnition optical cut off , no dash no pilot.
the 3w does weight a bit @ 1905g and has a 3mm alloy backing plate.

Is there anything there that I could take off

I will weight it tonight and get back to you guys
thanking you
Dean

If I were you I'd drop two of your batteries and put in a tech aero ibec. Sounds like you have a 100cc electrical setup. On my 87" yak I'm running a single 2300 a-123 and get 5 flights easy. Save you about half a pound right there.

+1
Go with tech aero and a single a123 or lipo. I use lipo's, because I've converted over to high voltage servos. You can swap out the single battery pack every two or three flights, just to play it on the safe side. Saves a lot of weight. I do this even on 96" ws planes.

Here is the update so far , put the 23 x 8 falcon wood prop on today and went out flying made a big improvement to the pull out not spectacular but manageable pull out going to try a 24 x8 xoar to see if it improves more.
would have liked to try a 23 x 9 but cannot find anybody that makes one.
will try the one battery idea what would I need running HV servos plus ignition ?

thanking you

Right then guys tried a 24 x 8 xoar wood prop today what a differents it made no waggle out of a hover just hit the throttle and the slick is up and away
thankyou for your input , Might still try a 24 or 23 x 9 carbon falcon when I can get one in Australia but I am Very happy at the moment maybe 3W does not suck
thanking you
