Yup as if the palimony lawsuits aren't bad enough when you've been "cohabitating", the Common Law marriage thing will get you. Utah used to say that you had to live together for five years before it became a marriage but they changed that a few years back to only one year. Care to guess why? Married couples pay more state income taxes than a couple of singles living together, so if you've lived together for more than a year and do not file as "married" they can actually prosecute you for tax evasion.....

Ain't life grand??????

Sorry for your loss but like a lot of us, you'll get through it....

I'm guessing she needed the dog more than you. You can interpret that any way you like!

I bet that eventually, things will cool off and she will ask you to come get these toys and trailer.
especially when the insurance and tabs come due for the trailer...if you can stay somewhat civil with her when/if you have to talk to her or the lawyer ever again.

Man.. been here done this. I "sold" all my stuff to a friend for $1 the day she asked for the divorce, before I signed anything. I didn't even move it out of the house. When it was time to split stuff up, i just said it was "Todd's" stuff.
After the divorce my friend screwed me and charged me 5 times what he had paid, but my plan still worked.

What a friend! Always nice to have a friend that will stick it to you like that At least your plan did work for the most part.

When I was around 13 my dad and mom divorced and my mom took my dad for just about everything he had. My dad had worked hard and built up quite a bit of stuff and it all went downhill at an amazing speed. My dad was resourceful though and managed in his lifetime to rebuild.

When the divorce was going on, it was amazing listening to the testimonies in the court and how the judge sided with my mom and I sat there the whole time knowing most of it was lies. At 13 I learned much about the crooks in the judicial system.

Life teaches us much if we just listen and learn. I hope there were no kids involved with the OP's situation as they wind up on the bad end of this a lot of the time.

Reminds me of a joke.

A guy driving down the road see's a DPS Pull behind him with its lights on and he starts to accelerate to get away but finally decides it is best to Pull over. The officer comes to his window and asks why he started to run from him? He told the officer that his wife had left him the year before for a DPS officer and I thought you were trying to bring her back!
