Hacker motor noise??

Has anyone ever had a Hacker motor make a strange "clicking" noise right out of the box? I had an A30-16m on my DW Juka that seemed to make this "clicking" noise at random throttle settings. I thought it was slop on shaft allowing the can to move fore and aft but it was tight. Next, I took a look at the bearings and they felt smooth as glass. Confused, thinking there may be something metallic attached to a magnet but it was all clean. Also, no apparent scuffs on the stator poles that would suggest something coming in contact between it and the mags It still does it to this day but runs like a champ.

Re: Hacker motor noise??

I am running a turnigy motor on a dw foamie and it is brand new and it makes this horrible squacking sound when I power up to fast motor does not want to do anything while it is making this noise, I have taken it appart and it is flawless as it appears bearing, windings and magnets all appear to be fine no scuffs or scratches but it still does it even after I reprogrammed my esc, help

Re: Hacker motor noise??

Had a an A30-something on a SebArt sukhoi and the motor was making the same noises. It was the bearings, which felt good to me, but after replacing them the noise went away. Of course, the plane had been flown quite a bit before the noise started...

Squawking noise

I had the same issue with matching turnigy speed controllers with hacker motors. Originally though that it was the bearing also.

Hacker a50 on a sebart wind s and turnigy motor = squawking noise.
  • replaced both speed controller and motor, same noise
  • changed to a Ice 2 100 no more noise.
Hacker a40-10s on a 3dh 57"extra with 85 amp turnigy speed controller
  • same squawking noise, ran ever setup change i could, still same sound
  • changed to Ice 80 no more noise after 50 flights
I've vowed never to pair a hacker motor and turnigy speed controller again.

I have ran 4-5 different hackers on turnigy speed controlers and never had a problem. I have had a few motors make some funny noises with various speed controls. Most were timing or startup sensing issues.. You may want to change the timing and start settings on your speed controler and check over all of the wiring.. All brushless controlers these days are sensorless and tell the motors position by comparing the instantenous voltages across the three phases.. Often a bad solder joint or connector can cause a problem as the controller sees the reflected voltage from the bad connection and gets momentarily confused..
