Do yourself a favor. Buy a DLE, not a DA.

Is anyone going to install a DA60 into this plane. And if so which exhaust is being used or contemplated.

Even the DLE 55 RA needs the cowl hacked...

I would imagine with what little room is left behind the engine, most of us will make a hole for hot airflow to escape anyways? The 50-60cc engines are going to stick out a bit more I'd imagine.

.25” to 7mm standoffs for the DLE55RA. Just keep that in mind too. I assumed it wouldn’t need any as the drilling template is for a DLE55 and it’s a recommended motor. Although standoffs are provided, they are either too short or too long. I cut the cowl without the standoffs until I realized I needed to keep cutting and extend the mount.

Longer Bolt Too!

O.S. GF40

Here´s a look at test fit O.S. GF40. Still requires a quite a bit more hacking to get the Keleo exhaust fitted. Ordered a few elbows to try the stock exhaust which sits more aft than the Keleo. If it doesn’t work, the $800 engine may go on shelf to go with DLE-35RA which appears to mostly fit inside cowl based on pics of Ali’s Timber on floats shared earlier in thread.

BTW, 59-60mm standoffs for optimal spinner gap.

The cowl design gets narrow towards the front so fuel engine options are few for those of us who prefer engine & muffler inside of cowl

That's a pretty neat engine Mark, It would sound purdy! I'm not overly concerned about the front appearance as it's not a scale machine per-say, Although there is a scale resemblance of a C180... This is going to be a bush plane showing off it's muscles, like a corvette with a blower ha ha!

Ali - do you recall what length standoff was used for your DLE35RA setup (float plane)? Love to get on order?

Cheers

Thanks !

Looks like you'll be doing a maiden soon. Did you put the X-Cub sprung tail wheel on?

No...I’m still a few weeks away. Have an exhaust elbow (and new cowl) on order to try to move muffler up and aft to get more concealed in cowl. If that doesn’t work, then will mount engine #3 (DLE35RA). If I can’t get gas engine & muffler mostly under cover, then will go EP.

I have the XCub tailwheel but currently have stock mounted. Not certain it’s worth the effort. If had known it wasn’t plug-n-play, I wouldn’t have ordered.

Looking forward to seeing vids of folks flying :-)

Ive been working on my own way to accommodate a bigger tire. The original is 1.4" hard foam and narrow. I designed this and am on version three of my 2” 3D Printed Tailwheel Mod with the stock gear. My progress has been on GSN with the assembly thread there. We’ll see how it works, but I like it!

Nick,
Could you post a link to the GSN thread please?
Thanks,
Gary

So these forums will not let you cross link to an external webpage that is not RCG or FG, so Giant Scale News (GSN) you'll have to find on the website itself. Shouldn't be hard to figure out.
