Thanks for all the input, already edit my reply to clear some confusion.

I think QC is a more suitable way to describe the situation at the factory since all the planes are hand made and the quality could vary.

I personally a test pilot for several compaies in SoCal. The QC variation in production line is trutly a headache to mange with.

Thanks again for sharing the detail!

2. It is not economical specially for the mom and pop (small companies) to have the OEM ship say 5-10 prototypes, cost of project will sky rocket if they were to ask for that as not every single proto is free!

3. I am almost confident only few and I mean very few get proto planes while the rest of people sponsored or non-sponsored get a plane out of production batch! I have not seen to date that the companies I have done testing for give any special consideration to proto planes. In fact its the other way around!

4. As for any company promote their product the way I have seen here and say it is made to take the beating and not fail!!!! Well, they'd better have a few full time resident in China watching over every single plane as it is being built......

I hope you get at least a new airframe....

I have noticed this as well.

I just ordered a 74. Will be going over it carefully with a flashlight inside and out prior to flight, and then taking it easy and rechecking after the first several flights. Wish me luck.

Did you see the high speed rifle roller Trixi did on Bivens 74 at FLI?

May I suggest you a few thing regarding this 74 Edge?

1. Go with electric.

2. Use Gorilla to reinforce the wing instead of Epoxy, you need to Gorilla the line along the wing tube and also on the panel that attach to the fuselage.

3. Change wing bolts to alunium.

enjoy it.

Sorry to hear about yours.

I did watch Trixi fly the fastest rifle roller I've ever seen on a 74 edge with a OSGT33 powering it. Like I said sorry to hear about yours, but seeing Trixi punish the plane the way she did, its apparent to me the design is solid.

I have no idea how many 74's have sold, but I bet its a very small percentage that have had problems. Its just that the ones that do sure leave an impression.

I'll inspect mine just to be on the safe side side, but I think the odds are in my favour that everything will be fine.

Why electric? If the airframe is "weak" why use a more powerful option? Unless you are suggesting the vibration caused the failure which doesn't appear to be the case.

because:
1. my 74 Edge is super lighweight compare to the older 72" Extra and make me think it is design more for the electric setup.

2. I keep getting people saying their 74" electric is going strong without any problem, that make me came to a conclusion that this 74 is more suitable for electric.

3. DLE30 is sure a good paint shaker !!

just my 2 cent.

Hum...hey Jack, have you ever ripped a wing of one of those knock-off 57" 3DH extras AeroBeez is trying to sell?

It is scheduled to maiden 'maybe' next week, not really interested to fly it but waiting for the call from owner.
I wasn't able to rip any wing off their gasser 'yet', but then...their gasser is heavier than any 3DHS plane.
