Where we are now and whats next

In my last blog entry (like a year ago!) I covered applying ultracoat quickly without using the Windex method. Prior to that I started a thread to investigate low cost vinyl cutters that could be used for our hobby. The results of which you can find here. Now that I have a complete, low cost, CAD/CAM tool chain for covering/vinyl at my disposal I can do crazy things like this:

Correcting a Design for Hinge Bevels (12 min 16 sec)

So that's nice but the question that's bugging me now is: whats next? I don't I want to re-cover another large aerobatic airplane. I took that project on because I didn't know if I could do it. That the fun part for me, figuring out how to do things I've never done before.

I think it may be time for something totally different...

Google Sketchup, the free version. I'm using this plugin: https://code.google.com/p/sketchup-s...downloads/list
to export the 2D parts as SVG files that the cutter can import. SVG files contain precise scale and size information so nothing is lost and they can be rendered in a web browser.

That is awesome. Grab a cheap 50 CC arf with some hanger rash, Strip it down and slap on a 1 off covering scheme.

Gareth, I have a test bed 50cc airframe if you elect to do the above

I can toss it in the truck the next time the mob gets together

I've already done that project. Let me tell you, the last thing you want to do is lavish all that attention on some beater airframe.

If I was going to do that project again i think I would have to take it to the next level. Take the Extreme Flight 104 and do a custom cowl and wheel pants, add tips to the wings, stabs and rudder to turn it onto a 300LT.

I had downloaded google sketchup a while back and gave it a quick try but never spent enough time to get really comfortable with it.. Seeing what you've done with it has me motivated enough to go back and work at it a bit more..

Thanks...
