Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

another, smaller option for 2 wire charging the a123's would to use a deans charge jack

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKX46&P=7

this plug has its own mount and easily handles 5-8 amps, will have to test 10 amps and see

If using these batteries with 2.4 radios are you still able to bind and use the data logger through the charge port on the switch? Some of the post I have read say you can't but others say you can. Just didn't want to try it and end up frying something.

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

If you configure your battery packs with NO "balance lead", and do not have the "third wire" connected from the battery connected AT the battery, YES. Mine are setup exactly that way, as I have a separate "balance charge" lead going to the side of the fuse. I bind through the switch.
However - the data logger connects to a different connector than the battery on the AR9000 Spektrum, so one would have to choose to "bind" or to "log" through the switch. If dual-switches, put one in each, good to go. See some explanation and wiring drawings at www.rcaerobats.net

Yeah, mine are setup just like Bob's. Two switches and just two wire output leads from the A123 packs. Then I've got the HD switches with the three wire leads going to the Batt/Bind and Batt/Data ports on the R921's. The data logger and the bind plug work through the switch charge jacks. I'm gonna try Bob's method of charging the A123's through the two wire outputs too, that would allow charging the batteries from the outside and my packs also have the Cellpro balance leads installed, but you have to pull the hatch to access those.

Hmm I cant get the logger to work thru my charge jack switch. It will read voltage when the switch is off but nothing else.

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

I don't know if it's an issue or I'm doing something wrong, but in playing around with mine I found that if I turn off the switch which goes to the the Batt/Data port, and leave on the switch going to the Batt/Bind port, I can read the data logger.

IIRC, there's something in the information about the data logger which says you have to leave the rx powered up in order to get the readings, but it won't play if I leave the switch it's plugged into, turned on.

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

That's correct. The Data Logger connector ONLY functions as long as the power to the RX is uninterrupted, because it is "reading" the previous power-on duration events. What you do is leave ON the "RX-Bind/Batt" switch, then turn OFF the "DATA-Batt" switch, plug in the logger, you're golden.

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

For JR and MPI switches, you will need a "Female to Female" extension to connect the "charge jack" of the switch to the male of the Data Logger. Works if you do that, won't if you don't. Ain't it amazin' how much of our stuff ends up being "gender-based" :-))

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

Well still no workie for me..I kept the power on the batt going into the bind port. Powered off the logger switch and it only give me voltage..I then plugged the logger direct to the rx and I got all the readings...Maybe its something with the type of switch ? JRHD DSC

Re: A123 Batteries for Dummies.

The JR HD DSC has all three wires continuous into the RX connector. If it is "OFF", then it's in the DSC mode, which connects all three from the RX connection. I just rechecked mine, to be sure, and it's okay reading through the charge receptacle of the "Data" switch when it is OFF, and the Main RX switch is left ON.
Must be something we're missing, PR.
