Big Altitude has been in there for a while, the whole time I have had the system anyway. They did get it to tilt farther up but the tracking speed up and down is limited by the servo motors. They say they may increase the speed of those motors in future versions.
The system works but understand the vertical tracking limitation as it is right now. You can see it in my videos. I tried everything to keep the plane in the frame when doing loops so slow the plane falls out of it at the top but no dice.

I am going to sell my SoloShot2 outfit. This outfit is the new one Soloshot sent to replace my original one that had something wrong with the tag. They replaced the whole thing just to be sure so this one has two days at the field on it and that is it. Still in perfect condition. Over $600 invested, sell it for $400 if anyone is interested. It can be shipped and i will put it in my store which will compute shipping during checkout rather than guessing.

I'm
Sorry it didn't work out Tom. I suspect it would be perfect for someone with ground based videoing requirements. And thanks for running all the tests.

It really is perfect for ground stuff and lots of plane things. It is the pure vertical that gets it in trouble.

I was going to keep using it for flight videos for review with my guy on a hand-held camera also but my last woodworking sponsor pulled out so my income just dropped to nothing and that makes the SoloShot less crucial or I would keep it.

I obtained this about 5months ago, but finally was able to get it to work. The instructions are horrible, and this is on the website.

Today,. i found the instructions on the website that helped.

Now, i was kind of happy because i got it to track, but the quality of filming is a D-

tracking, was, i would say, a C

but, at least i got it working.

I am posting here, hoping someone else has this and they could help me improve the image quality and the filming.

Here is from today:

what do i need to do to make it better

i programmed it so all 3 LED are red.

Tom Hintz has extensive time on these. He'd be an excellent resource.

It looks like you are using auto focus which I know they say to use in the instructions but bear with me. Set the camera on manual focus, set to infinity. The only time the image gets fuzzy then is if you are within 15 feet or so of the camera.

The vertical tracking is less than perfect but that is limited by the speed of the tilt servo in the unit. I usually used the wide frame setting, big altitude. You have to play with those settings though to see what works best with your flying.

Soloshot3 spec

Look like vertical capability 2x times better in new model, although still less than horizontal capability of Soloshot2.
30sec "warm up" time is also better than ~8 min on older model.
Many other improvements as well.

I was one of the pre-orders and have had it for about a year now.

It's better than the 2 but not that great. Sometimes it will produce a pretty decent video and other times it will track a spot 50 feet to the left of the airplane, or stop tracking and stare at the ground or the sky for a few seconds, or lose focus for the whole flight (which is infuriating...it knows how far away the airplane is, it should have no trouble at least focusing. I think they used some standard autofocus algorithm instead of calculating the focus based on the tag distance).

I pretty much always have to use the "extra wide" framing or it will lose the airplane. This makes the plane pretty small in the frame. If I go to wide or medium framing lots of the flight will be missed.

Video quality is not that good. The only adjustment you have is ISO and often looks washed out in bright sunlight or grainy near golden hour.

The videos definitely lack the feel and presence you get with a decent camera operator. It feels like something a drunk person took with an iPhone 6.

Battery life isn't great. It will hold up for a good afternoon of flying but the ideal situation would be to leave it running all day and it won't do that.

On the other hand, there's nothing else like it out there. If there were I'd buy it.

My Soloshot3 was a disappointment (Did not work as advertised) so I returned it within 10 days of receiving it. The bad part is, the Co. received the unit back almost 2 Months ago and still NO REFUND. I had to get the Credit Card involved and looks like a 3 month process in getting a refund, if at all!! BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! This Co. is NOT on the UP & UP!!!
