I only found out about trying the resistor after several google searches on hall effect schematics and like a miracle it fixed all my issues. Others in the thread said they didn't need it so mind as well give it a shot. I also wonder if the resistance value of the resistor matters? You may want to try to reach out to Andy Kunz from Spektrum/Horizon via PM. He's a pretty smart guy and would be able to answer technical questions about the Rx.

Old thread I know. I want to thank Muttdog. I just hooked up the TM1000 (a satellite cable with one end to fit the Y connector)and the RCexl tach to the hall effect sensor with a Y connector. My DA 120 has a set of 4-40 holes opposite the ignition sensor. Power comes from the TM1000. Seems to be working with bench testing. It did NOT work without the resistor. I have not run the engine yet but looks like it will work.

I've just recently got my DA-170 reporting reliable, stable rpm at all speeds. I'm using an RCEXL ignition pickup sensor (Hall effect sensor) directly into the rpm port of my AR12310T receiver. I have a 10K resistor between the signal wire and the power wire.
The trick for me was to eliminate the interference from the ignition. I moved the throttle servo 18 inches back behind the engine. And I added a ferrite core (donut magnet) on the extension wire from the rpm sensor. So I have a pretty good physical separation between the components of the RC system (receiver and servos) and the ignition. I have ten flights now with this setup and the rpm has been working perfectly. Before moving the throttle servo, I had rpm readings that were all over the place -- basically unusable -- especially at high throttle. |

I did the same except I used an opto-isolator in between the rcexl pickup and the receiver to eliminate the interference, pickup being powered from the ignition battery.
Used double sided foam tape to attach the rcexl sensor to the engine since it didn't have the extra mounting holes, seems to work fine been on there a couple of years so far. |

Anyone tried this with a evolution telemetry adapter? Would this work as well, if pickup has power from the ignition battery before the adapter ? I own 3 DA engines that I would like to have telemetry read. Anyone have pics or a diagram of their hookup?

It seems to me that Desert Aircraft could make alot of money selling new boxes if they came out with a new ignition box that had an RPM out lead, mounting feet with grommets, connectors on the power input and signal lines, and a few other details.

Use a Y cable from the sensor, one 3 wire lead to the ignition and one signal wire to Futaba SBUS temp sensor.

No. At least not my DA50, 60, 70. My 100L did.
