Saito FG60R3 Mods

Good day...i am new to Radial engines. I was thinking of getting the Saito FG60R3 for my TF Gaint Corsair. I started reading up about the Saito FG60R3 but came across some problems on the engin. Can someone send me in the right direction regarding mods on this engin? Who can i contact or where can i get this mods from. I have read about a guy called Ray English. Does he still do mods or any info on where to get this mods please. Thank u. Happy landings 🛩🙂

I read about problems with the intake, causing the cylinders not to run the same temp, there is some mod done to the intake and timing.

If it's a newer 60, it has the mods from the factory, they improved the fuel distribution to even out the cylinders using Ray's methods. I have the 84 that Ray modified, expensive but worth it mostly for the connecting rod bronze bushing mod he does, didn't have a bushing from the factory.

Also check out Mini Morris Motors mods on YouTube. I like what he is doing on these little jems!
Horizon Hobby is actually the USA importer for Saito. They're the warranty center as well, I would order from them, I love Tower Hobbies but they have to order from Horrizon......will save you some time.

If you have a new engine, you will receive the new version which has different cylinder and pistons to the original model.

The timing will STILL be at around 45Deg BTDC but you can get a mod from Morris Mini Motors, CH Ignitions or Modelissme MicroMoteurs that is a new prob hub so you can time it to 28-30Deg BTDC. I believ Ray Engish will do the mod, but not sure he sells it as a DIY or not.

Morris can sell you a mod the routes the fuel/air mix through the crankcase so that you can run the engine on a oil mix ratio of 32:1. It provides good lubrication and as a result less carbon build up from a high oil content. Modellisme will do the mod, but dont believe they sell it as a DIY, the same applies to Ray English, but I dont have any feedback on that.

Since Saito changed the piston/cyl combo, thereby reducing the compression and making the cylinder bolt ears stronger, the engines are LESS prone to cracking cylinders but getting the timing right is a good idea, and running the crankcase mod is a sensible one.

pick your poison, and there are mixed opinions of their reliability, and many people have had the cylinder cracking on this model engine in its original release.

Great engines when they run well, and the addition of a collector ring adds to their appeal greatly.
