I cannot seem to find any people running hitec digital servos on the vanquish 2M. Is anybody using Hitec digitals? Which are recommended for ailerons/rudder and elevators? JR servos seem to be preferred, but are twice the price.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not too sure about Savox or Hitec servos for the Vanquish, I do use Savox servos in small planes and a 1/10th buggy and I haven't had a problem. I can only say try them and see what it is like.... However, if it were me and when I get a Vanquish I will be investing in some decent servos (Futaba). In all my bigger more expensive planes it's just a little piece of mind paying the little bit extra for quality gear. Just my 0.2c...

Savox are rebranded Futaba/Align servos so they should be good.

There is nothing wrong in using HiTec Servos as long as they are Digital.

Depends really, I have some small Hitec servos and they are centre pretty well but I have heard the same story.... Some people only choose to use Hitec servos in their 40%ers that's their personal preference. In the end it is totally up to you, fly what you prefer and what your wallet can afford. If you are only getting started in F3a flying sportsman and not really interested in progressing too far, Hitec and Savox would be a good choice. If I remember correctly I think Savox makes a nice low profile servo that would be good for the wing....

The thing I've been told by Todd Blose (used to be big in the pattern world here in the US) and Scott McHarg (USA Pattern Sec.) is that you want a coreless servo that centers well.

I'm pretty sure that they are not. They serve as a vendor producing OEM products for various companies, Align being one of them. Obviously, they produce their own servos as well.

The planform view of the servo mount in the Vanquish is that of a standard-sized servo. I am using a JR MP91T on my ailerons which has a standard case layout, but is shallower, akin to the 9411. Low profile servos are not needed for the airplane, but they can help reduce weight, which is particularly critical in the wings. Be careful which low-profile servos you choose, as there are some (Futaba 9150/4) that have a much larger footprint and are every bit as heavy as a standard-sized servo.

Having been around pattern for a while now, I can't recommend anybody go with anything short of the best they can afford. JR, Futaba, and Airtronics all provide very good options for servos. My standard setup for a long time had been DS8411 on the rudder, DS9411s on the ailerons (they have plenty of torque, and the 3/4oz difference in weight per wing panel is very noticeable), and DS3421/DS3517 on the elevators. Futaba equivalents (digital, brushed) of the same era that I was aware of were S9151 for rudder, S9650s for elevators, and S9550s for ailerons. I would recommend buying a good, used servo before I would even entertain talking someone into using a budget servo on anything, even throttle. You run the risk of never trimming your airplane out and fighting yourself every step of the way- the exact opposite of what you should experience with a pattern airplane.
