I finally got around to flying the CARF Pitts 12 with Moki 300 during the last week. Its now been out twice, so here is some feedback and comments on it.

The Pitts came out at an AUW of 23.5 kg. Clearly this is at the heavy end of the advertised weights CARF gives for this model. In any case though, I can tell you that the airframe carries this weight without any issues and flys fantastically well. It has a mild-mannered stall and seems very happy in slow speed flight, including flying a harrier or rolling harrier.

The model has even done a dead stick landing and was rock solid in the glide.

The Moki300 has really given the Pitts some excellent performance. Its happy doing unlimited uplines and is hovering at about half throttle stick. The engine is running an Engel 34x18 which was recommended by Airworld, who manufacture the Moki radial engines.

I did do an upgrade to the Moki 300, which was to fit the carbon fibre valve pushrod set from Heilmann Sternmotoren: https://www.heilemann-sternmotoren.de/e ... -moki-info

The pushrods are half the weight of the steel pushrods fitted as standard to the engine, allowing it to run about 250rpm faster. For a low revving radial engine, this is quite a big increase.

I’m running a 1.25 litre fuel tank. This is giving about a 12-minute flight time with 2-3 minute reserve.

The Futaba A700 servos I’m using are excellent and despite their massive torque, using very little in the way of power. 3 Flights yesterday used only 15% of the dual 4,000 mAh receiver LiPo packs I am using.

So, overall I’m really, really pleased! This flys amazingly well, sounds awesome and looks awesome!

Crash-n-burn: I hope this help you make a decision on this, if you haven’t already done so. Let me know is you have any questions.

Thanks! It does look nice....

I was hoping to take some video yesterday, but the weather here in London, UK, was very wet and we were flying between the showers. So, I left my camcorder in its bag as I didn't want it to get wet.

I'm not going to be flying the next two weekends, but should be back out with the Pitts in early November. I'll try and put up some video of this flying then.
