A Roto 170 flat four would sound great in one, and look scaleish too... Time to sweet talk the minister for finance

From the manual:

118. Use the appropriate screws and spacers to achieve a spacing of 213mm between the firewall and face of the drive washer. The engine to driver washer measurement can be between 207mm and 219 mm.
The picture shows a DLE 130 with a pretty good stack of spacers.

Further from the manual:

Due to the short nose and long tail of the Carbon Cub FX-3, it is not uncommon for them to require nose weight in order to achieve the correct balance to suit some flying styles. For a soft and sedate “feel” it may be necessary to add between 2–4 lbs (0.91–1.8 kg) to the front of the aircraft.

I would think that the 200 is slightly narrower than the DLE130 but that the DA 200 backplate to hub is approx. 246 mm then the firewall would need to be relocated about 30 MM rearward.

Wow, I like it. I am seriously considering one. Seems like a great giant scale Sunday flyer. Also, I’m with the others in that I disagree that giant scale is in decline. There are some who have and will abandon them for their own personal reasons. But from my experience, the giant scale crew will be the ones fighting to the last. Too much passion in the giant scale group, IMO.

Now we're talking. That is a great suggestion.

Although Horizons last large scale sailplane fell through there are still lots of us that need large tow planes.

which is interesting, because to date the best tow plane out there for simply raw towing ability is the Pegasus with a DA 100. the scale stuff looks cool ( I have a 33% Pawnee with a DLE 111, and am finishing a 122 Decathlon with a DLE 85) and all, but with the larger classic designs and newer 6 - 7m triangle racers pushing 30 plus pounds it's raw power that wins the day. if you look at my blog you will see Cal Orr's massive sailplane that tips the scales at about 70 lbs. it was towed that day by two different planes with DA 170s but the tow plane that took it to altitude was the Pegasus with a DA 100. With a quad like the 222 my concern would be keeping those rear cylinders cool under tow.

if you google the registration numbers you can see what the full scale looks like on floats. it's very impressive. I think the model is a scaled version of the 60cc X Cub, which is slightly different than the full scale shown in the pictures.

The DLE222 isn't necessary for towing even the largest sailplanes. That picture was just for reference. But with a towplane that already weighs 55+ lbs more power is always good.

Here's a pic from the manual:

,,,at 219mm from firewall to prop flange a DLE222 or DA200 means modifying the stock firewall.

I'm thinking a DA-150 or DLE-170 are going to be the best choices without firewall modification.

That’s a good looking bird. Looks like it would be a fun plane to strap the new DA215 on it.

I guess I should have rephrased "big stuff". I meant the approx.. 50% and bigger 55 lb. + piston driven aircraft seem to be on the decline. Not the more prominent giant scale of 25-40% aircraft.

Fair enough. Guess I didn’t think about that. I think mostly that’s because anything over 45% usually flies like a turd. I’ve yet to fly anything (that’s wasn’t a cub/decathalon) bigger than a 126” slick that wasn’t awful to fly.
