Just wondering how the built went and if you have had the plane in the air yet? Looking to purchase the kit and was wondering if it is worth it?

Hi! Thanks. It flies very well. The maiden flight was with an OS 1.20AX in the nose. The engine has the same weight as a .90 size, but more power. The a/c weighs a hefty 16lbs., so I needed a little more ooph, and the 1.20 does it for me. I didn't want to overpower it and have a pure beast that I would have to fly around with the throttle pulled all the way back. :-)

I'm even exploring the option of going brushless electric with it. Eflite makes a Power 110 that packs plenty of power. I'll research and see what kind of deals I can get on LiPo's for that monster before I go in that direction.

I wasn't looking for a 3D aircraft, but rather something that's sport/scale-ish. I love the Extra 300L's low wing and long, low canopy, but the better models out there were out of my $$$ reach. This 300S 'kinda looks like a 300L (especially with the long canopy), so I'm happy with the looks.

As for the flight performance; handling in the air, it was docile enough for me, as long as I kept my control rates low. So its habits are pretty good in my opinion - hey, it's an Extra, not a Cub! By the way, those big ailerons have plenty authority and she has a pretty wicked roll rate if you yank the controls around - i found this out while feeling her out a bit - lol. Elevator control is very good and the rudder has plenty airflow over it to be effective - even at low airspeeds. So far I've only performed some scale manuevers, and mild rolls - no loops yet. As I get more confident, I'll explore its flight envelope more. I am able to come in pretty slow on final approaches and that 1.20 has plenty of torque ready to give me just a little more lift cushion those landings just in case the wing starts to stall in those last few inches before touchdown.

So far, so good. I think my $$$ were well-spent, because I like the model. It only needed a little finishing work to make it perfect (covering iron in some spots, that's all).

Cheers!
