Tensor or Reflection?

I currently have a ultimate fx 3d which is great fun but I am wanting to work on a routine so that I can eventually compete. I bought the Ultimate fx cause I new was strong and so it could handle the accidents while I learned but now I am ready for something better. Which one, the Tensor or the Reflection? Which one can knife edge and harrier roll better? Which one can handle wind better? I know competitions will be indoor but I have no indoor place to practice so some wind will be a factor. (that was another reason I started with the ultimate cause it can handle some strong wind) Thanks for your input!

The Reflection was designed in your town by Greg Ward, Sean McMurtry flew it to win many contests. The GP version has a slight bit more weight and will do well outside for practice. The Tensor is a great design also and has won the ETOC, not as good for winds. Just a thought.

My Tensor was no match for even a light wind... Too Light, It would knife edge and roll almost without any rudder inputs. I have never had a reflection but would try that next.

Re: Tensor or Reflection?

The first time I flew my Tensor I almost lost it. Found it three streets over infront of someones house. Between it flying differently than any other plane I have owned it was also way lighter.

The Reflection aka (Havoc) is a great aircraft. It will do knife edge loops all day with very little if any correction just rudder.
Greg Ward designed a winner and will probably have more coming.
I highly recommend it.

Re: Tensor or Reflection?

I saw Sean McMurtry fly the reflection a few weekends ago. It was incredible! I will be seeing him again pretty soon at a fly-in, hosted by Jim Flannigan, in OKC where I live.

Well, it sounds like the reflection may be the one for my particular usage so that bring another question.

I like to support the hobby as much as I can but I wanted to get some depron and make a copy whatever I end up buying so I can paint it my own way and cause I know I will crash a lot. If I did that would that cause me any legal problems if I compete or any other problems? I would also like to make a copy so I could learn more about building and designing them as I could eventually like to design one also.

Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Tensor or Reflection?

In my opinion, it's fine to copy and experiement with a design as long as you don't go and try to sell it. I've rebuilt several foamy's or tried to copy them for myself. Usually mine don't work as well as the ones I've bought because they know what they are doing and can cut the parts better than i can. As far as competition I don't know but an Original design should be OK???

Re: Tensor or Reflection?

The Reflection is an incredible flyer and the most durable of all the Flatouts. Its almost like cheating. Rolling harrier circles with aileron input only and just tickle the throttle for altitude adjustments. I have flown both and like the Reflection better, it's just a little harder to build. I had mine setup with a Rimfire and E-Flight7.5's and used a TP 900 3 cell

I think the reflection is the one for me! Especially since you get that kind of performance for only 40 dollars! Thanks for all the input!
