I would do it before I put it together that way you can mask off the entire sections with out the elevators or wings getting in the way.

Paint it before you put it together. I use a H2O brand spray paint. It comes off with water and soap before it dries, and stays on the foam very well. I buy mine from Fred Myers, but dont know if there is a Fred Myer were you live.

Get Creatix airbrush paint, or the PARMA RC air brush paint.

1) water based.
2) dry it with a hair drier in 2 min
3) no smell
4) 500 colors available, like $3 a color.

If you need spray cans, Krylon short cuts.

Some folks have used color tape for their designs:

Krylon Short Cuts works like a champ. Right out of the can...spray it on.

Createx is great too, but you need to thin it and spray it with an airbrush.

Also House of Color-basically the same as Createx, but the colors have different names and it is sold in the U.K. Formulated for airbrushing, like Createx.

Re: Paint for foam??

Since I have never used an airbrush before, I think I will be better off with the Shortcuts paint, we do own an airbrush...Maybe I'll try it on the next foamy!

Thanks guys!

Re: Paint for foam??

I painted my 3dfoamy superxtra with testors model enamels, it came out okay but when you mask off, even with the low tack tape it still pulls up the smooth top layer of foam. from a distance my plane looks great, up close... well that's another story. a flying buddy of mine is using the parma Faskolor paint. water based, dries nearly instantly and looks awesome. downside is that you need an airbrush with it. I will try to post some pictures of my SuperXtra this weekend, or when I get it finished.

tape is a bugger to use for sure. If you use depron with spray paint, depron pinned on the plane is the perfect masking tape. I know is seems almost wrong to cut up depron to use as masking but it works.

Re: Paint for foam??

yeah, i looked at ShortCuts once, and found that the little cans cost as much as the full sized cans, here in stillwater anyways. As far as i can tell, it is the same type of paint as the original Krylon. I'd go with the Krylon H2O. we used some on a friend's foamy and it worked great, no odor, sticks well...
