H9's Sundowner

Is this plane legal for any class of racing? I know absolutley nothing about the USRA, but I'm really digging the new plane and would love to try my hand at the go fast and turn left thing.

Give it a little time. Mike will probably chime in here but the word is that the Sundowner may eventually replace the 'entry-level' Dominator class at USRA races. Expect to see it run stock, with stock engines, and race supplied props and fuel. Would be great to see.

Craig.

If they plan on racing them, then they should come out with a few solid colors

Imagine 5 all looking the same at 120mph!! FUN!!

Re: H9's Sundowner

It's great the Mikey Mc made the effort to design a "raceable" ARF that anyone can buy and race at almost any field! That's precisely what the USRA needs to get more people involved. There have been many who have wanted to get into the sport but couldn't fly the clean and LOUD airplanes anywhere but at airports, which stopped them short. Now they can have a well engineered, great looking, cost effective, quiet, and apparently fast ARF that they can get going with......AWESOME!

It would be a big mistake for the USRA not to adopt this as the replacement for the Dominator class since everything is so right about it.

For those that haven't heard we will be racing sundowners as a provisional class in Ashtabula and Parker this year. I've got mine on order. They are still working on the class rules but it looks like we'll use the stock Evolution 35GT2.

REALLY!!

OK..

1) when is the plane actually available?

2) What would I need to do to race a plane, meaning.. AMA and IMAA enough? Do you join the USRA?
When will the motor regulations be posted and where?

I want more information! Ashtabula is 1 hr from my house!

I eyeballed this thing as soon as it came out in the magazine. It's a pretty plane. I know, I know, but ARF's can and I think will save some forms of the sport of RC...

Re: H9's Sundowner

Mike McConville said it should start shipping in about two weeks. The rules are still a work in progress but as I understand it, it will be box stock airframe and motor. Rules will be posted at USRAINFO.ORG when ready. Race info and entry forms are also available on the the USRA site.

You must have AMA but USRA membership is not required. Entry fee for non-USRA is slightly higher.

Well, back to work for me. I'll post a few pics of the sundowner from Rantoul when I get home tonight.
