2017 North Central Region IMAC Schedule

Happy New Year Everyone!
I wanted to let everyone know that all of our 2016 contests have been tentatively re-scheduled for 2017. (Thank you to all of the CDs who have registered!)

Link: http://www.mini-iac.org/Regions/North-Central-Region

There are 4 small changes that I wanted to point out:
  1. We've probably all heard that the NATS are being moved up a few days...please check that out and plan accordingly.
  2. Mike Roxberry (Mid-Michigan) and Mark Schmaltz (KRAM) swapped their dates.
  3. Due to a soaring contest in September at the IAC, we've been given Sept 23rd (a week later than expected) for the regionals.
  4. Ray's Hebron contest has been moved to the 16th (a week later than his "reserved" date).
Everything is still tentative!! This week, Ron will work with me to begin officially checking info and approving the dates.

I urge everyone to look over the schedule and begin formulating plans. Again, please do not make hard plans (reservations, time off, etc) until the event turns white on the site.

Let me know if you have any questions!

All 2017 NC contests have been confirmed and approved!
Looks like our remaining open dates for additional new contests are:

  • 06/10/17
  • 08/05/17
  • 09/02/17
  • 09/09/17

(As of now, I'm not opening Mother's Day weekend and the weekend after the NATS)

Thanks for the heads up. I caught just the tail end of competition last year and didn't know what to expect for 2017 regarding dates. Looking forward to competing in as many events as I can this year.

I do have a question about the Nats. How is that IMAC event different from the others, other than taking place over four days instead of two? Never been before, but now that I'm only two hours away, I have no excuse for not going.

Also, do you have to qualify to attend the regional championships in September? How many events do I have to compete in to get ranked? It looks like I'll be able to make 8 events, including Nats and Regional.

The first three days are preliminaries, the last day is the Finals. The number of folks carried into the finals depends on the turnout, which is expected to be large this year due to the worlds team qualifying aspect. The first 3 days account for 50% of your total score, in the finals your best single Known, and Unknown each count for 25%. Basic is not flown at NATs.
As for the regional finals, in all regions but the SE, the it's an open contest just as any other contest. This year there is the added element of the worlds qualifying spot - which is a contest within the contest among the top five point earners in each class except basic.

The first main difference is there is no Basic class. Secondly, each class (Sportsman thru Unlimited) fly and unknown sequence each day instead of just one in a standard event.

As far as the regional championship, anyone can participate. To compete for the RPS you will need to compete in at least 5 contests.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I'll be doing at least a year of Basic before going to the Nats in Sportsman class.

If possible, it's probably worth for you to come for a day or two to the NATs to get a feel for it...and even scribe for some classes so you get some real good training. Highly recomended!

I'll look into it. I'd be glad to help out and learn along the way. I am planning on going to Judging school in April.
