Re: new H9 Sukoi

Hi Guys

Yes, it s set-up for a MTW 110 can and the one in the pics has it in there.

Here is a little info and philosophy on the design. First, the only common part it shares with my original SU-31 is the cowl. The cowl was fine so no need to redo it since the model scale (by wingspan) is the same at 97".
The intent of this model is to make a Sukhoi fly extremely well. Lets be honest, there are NO Suk models in existance (till now) that dont have coupeling issues among other things. Some fly good, but none excellent. None well enough to compete in IMAC at the top levels.

This is not supposed to be a super scale design. Sorry, but NO excellent flying scale aerobatic airplane is. All of the best flying models we know and love have a lot of liberties taken to improve flight performance. The VERY popular Yak 54 models are deviated quite a lot from a full scale Yak 54. (and by quite a lot, that is no more than 10% in a linear dimension to remain comp legal). The full scale Yak if just reduced has the same issues as a Suk.
I wanted to tweak a Suk as much as possible and did so. Its all within 10% on any deviation, many less. The wing is totally different from the original H9 Suk as well. Airfoil is the same as I used on the Extra 35% 260. Wing planform is changed slightly, fuse stretched, wing bumped up a little, stab bumped down a little, fin stretched a little (scale Suk fin tends to wander in yaw, too short).
What I ended up with is a model that takes virtually NO mixing. Has very strong rudder authority, rolls extremely axial. Presents very well in the air. The fuse draws very straight lines horizontal and vertical. Structurally, its light and done so that a single 8711 is used on the rudder mounted in the TAIL (no cables) and the rx batteries mount under the canopy with a DA-85 and MTW can. No lead needed, so all up weight with an engine this size is 3 to 4 lbs less than the SU-31 I did, weighing in at 21.75 lbs RTF less fuel.
It also uses only 1 servo per aileron. Big cost savings when outfitting it. (Thanks to Brian Hueff for that idea).
So, if you want a very scales outline model, its not for you, but neither are any of the top selling and best flying scale aerobatic models. If you want an amazing flying Suk that is a SU-26 by any scale deviation rule for aerobatics and as much or more so as all other great flying designs, then this is THE Suk, bar none.

I think its the best flying SA design I've ever done, I'm really excited about it.

Sounds great and I have a DA 85 on the shelf. What would be the time frame?

No actually I flew a Freestyle demo with it. Brendan won Sportsman with it. It wouldnd be legal for me to fly Sportsman.

I was going to fly it in Unlimited but my buddy wanted me to fly his H9 Ultimate so thats what I flew.

Looks awesome! I was hoping you would continue the line of 33%'ers.

Do you have a length from spinner to rudder tip? (wondering if it will fit in my truck)
Also, whats the recommended servo torque for the ail. servos?

Thanks,

Doug

Im a little late posting pics, Im still trying to recover from the drive picking up the backup and then another road trip meeting Tom to deliver the plane to be loaded for Tucson last night, 4am Monday morning coming home from Wheeler to Champaign to home, then 3am Wed. morning meeting Tom, im whooped.

Here are a few pics of the SU26 that I took, Bren took it to 1st place with only a couple of practice flights after the accident with the 260 Friday evening.
