Airboss or not, the one thing we have learned at our club field <SMALL airport scale full grass>is full scale airplanes are not required to even have radios. You can have loud speaks, airbosses, and a tower, these aircraft will come in silently. At that point, the RC planes must land fast or ditch in the corn at our field, no exception. We have had the "unannounced" low pass from time to time, spotters saved us. RC and Full Scale = Oil and Water.

Just sayin

Water under the bridge is a pipedream at this point. I think your all in for a costly, bumpy ride.

The AirBoss in question (Quit Bashing Him) Is a top notch pilot, and flys for a living.
Wow. Seems he should know the in's and outs of attempting something like this if he is a professional aviator.
May be a great pilot but, he surely missed it on this one.

This was said on another forum and I think its dead on .

Planned? Maybe, but not with the RC pilot obviously.

In the video you see him ducking down, doesn't look like someone who was expecting the Pitts to come rolling through.

Maybe, maybe not.
I've seen some low passes where people duck even when they know its coming.

Him ducking doesnt prove anything to me except that the Pitts was low. (Not smart)

Right...

Anyhow, I think the talk about needing lawyers, and possible outcomes are such speculation at this point, it serves us no purpose here.

There's a lesson to be learned, many in fact.

Let's not be distracted by the pulp media obsession with backstabbing, mudslinging, and Simon like wise crack insults.

Interesting take on it Wayne! Wonder if the stunt was somehow planned and just went wrong? Not likely.....but interesting scenario

For those that don't know the whole story, you can find it in this thread that was closed earlier.

https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...ad.php?t=56037

Again we ask to keep this thread clean and avoid personal attacks, let's learn a lesson or 2.

Again, all speculation at this point.

So, where do we go from here?

If it was planned, it was done so poorly, and with bad judgement.

What's the lesson to be learned?

Can such coordinate stunts be done safely, if that's what this was?

Or should they be avoided at all cost?

It seems to me, that the safety distance from the crowd to the flight line was much too small in this case, no matter what.

What steps can we take to ensure future events avoid this sort of mishap?

Flying Monkey, I have to agree with you. What has happened has happened. The important thing for us as modelers is to insure that it does not happen again.

Re: Must See Video: Full Scale Plane Collides with Giant Scale R/C Plane!

RC airplanes don't mix with Full Scale airplanes....and what is an RC doing at the local airport...without a TCAS no less! I fly both types, but come on...I would not rely on the systems in my RC airplane to the extent that I would bet others lives on it....and that is what is going on here intentionally or not. So, until the RC/UAV community can come up with a TCAS system that provides adequate seperation (and the "evil" Insurance Industry will underwrite it) I would recommend flying the RCs a little further away from the real airports....or we will be visiting this topic again.

I agree it seems this whole thing happened due to poor planning. At least no one was killed. This would all be a much much bigger issue.
