Did you sell that to John "TEXX" Kolher? I think he had that pink and blue laser at NALL last year.?

I think that modified Lazer is called an Extra? Sorry dude, couldn't resist!!

Why does it lack in knife edge? That side area looks enormous...

Here is the start of mine. This one is 35% but will be scaled down for a 120 2 stroke for testing. I added about 3" to the fuse length, made it a little taller and enlarged the entire tail.

I don't know why it was said to lack on knife edge.... I knew plently of people that had the Lainer's that would take off at a crawl and through it into a high alpha knife and climb out.

Hell a 260 and a lazer are really close.

Why airfoil the stabs?

I would airfoil the tail so I could put them on tubes. Just from an ease standpoint.

Re: Why not a Laser.......

I think a contributing factor to the lack of knife edge is a smallish side area ahead of the CG. From a side view, the cowl necks down to almost the size of the spinner. With a single jug engine, most of the jug is in the breeze. With a twin, the mufflers won't fit in the cowl. When I increased the fuselage length on my last one I increase both the nose & tail moments and increased the rudder chord. It definitely helped and with yaw authority.
When I built it in 1995, I didn't know what 3D flying was! I also didn't strive as hard for the power/weight like most 3Ders have today. Though it ran very well, my 3W-70 twin was a boat anchor by today's standards.
I wonder if my BME-105 would fit in a 33% laser cowling?!?

I agree, airfoil the tail and eliminate the pesky flying wires...

George Welcome Jr of Port ST. John Florida has a 40% Bud light Laser 200 with a ZDZ 160 in the nose. It has a airfoiled tail surface as one of the mods. It is bad ass And has been put through the 3D ringer. I will look for pics.

Jeremy,

Jack Strickland I think sells some plans for a 40%er. Would love one with the long canopy like Leo's last iteration. The only thing I can think of why Lasers are not so popular is the cowling is not as clean looking as Extras and Edges.
