Finishing a Cessna 421C going to use Sig Koveral what is the lightest way to fill the weave?

Automotive primers are heavy but will do a nice job. You can use sig nitrate dope to seal the weave and it helps keep the fabric tight. Then use their sanding sealer as your weave filler. Dopes are much lighter then alot of other products.

Well going back to my silk and dope days, I would also recommend the nitrate dope as well. If you mix in some baby powder, it will help fill the weave even faster. You will be able to get a glass finish if that’s what you’re after. Recommend using a test sheet of balsa and experiment to get the finish your looking for.

I've used rustoleum primer fill spray can. Look for the pin holes then touch up. I sprayed into a pudding cup and used a brush for touchup. Warbird colors was the paint. Used Nelson's too but that paint is not around anymore. Some guys in the club use Klass kote over rustoleum.

I'm assuming you're gonna do the dope finish first. I do 3 coats of dope, then the primer.

This is the lightest method. Top coat with butryate color dope for the win.

Dope

Use corn starch in place of baby powder to help fill the weave.

I have had fantastic long term results over the last 35 years with the Stits system over 1.87oz. Ceconite along with automotive high build prime and a base coat clear coat.
