Yup, A lot of variables to consider before giving any helpful advise. Air, Boat, Truck, and Roadtrip. If it's an ARF that's the easiest. Big planes usually mean multiple smaller boxes. If it's a built up plane that will mean making your own custom box. It's hard to find that thick HD cardboard to glue together, so making a light plywood box and setting up some sort of shipment method whether it be a container shipment via boat or truck, or airmail via cargo or passenger plane. Lots of ways with the biggest variables being size, weight, and where to and from.

I drove up to Pemberton ND to pick up a crated plane from a guy from Winnipeg Manitoba...he shipped it across the border to a small warehouse shipping firm that specializes in getting things to and fro between USA and Canada....since we're persona non grata there right now.
In return I dropped off a 50% Modelbau Challenger II to be sent the other way.....the only thing in 'custom crates' were the wings, the airframe itself went 'naked', via the same freight service.
But it took the freight firms' supervisor to ferry it across, as all the drivers were afraid of potentially damaging the airframe.
