Yeah. You won't see me standing out there but if someone else wants to, more power to them. Not much different than people standing there holding poles with ribbons in between while the pilot flies through the middle. Looks fun, but not a job I'll volunteer for.

Well , let's say it was a little more risky than holding a pole with ribbons ....

I had my fair share of doing STUPID things but this one must be one of the toplist ...

If this was a practice for a show where the positions are relatively calculated and rehearsed in a pre-flight briefing and the stunt is repeated with all the calculations in place, then WOW.. brave guys...

That being said.. What's that saying? There are smart, old air show pilots, but no wreckless, old air show pilots? Or something like that?
Sleepy you are close but no Cigar. LOL ! I believe the Saying goes I have seen many old pilot's, and many Bold pilot's, But to this day, I have never seen an Old, Bold, Pilot. At least that is what my flight Instructor always told me.

I'm conditionally OK with these guys doing this. At least all of the people that were visually in the splatter pattern were participants, who at least sort of knew what they were getting into. I'm with the crew that has already had too much of this in my lifetime to want more opportunities to have the dice come up snake eyes, so I am not going to be out there with them.

Things that would make me less OK with it. Spectators. Participants not having their own health insurance that is fully informed of the likely costs this crew will have. Not having the loans on the bikes/quads/planes paid off.

Those are stunt riders. As I guy who used to own "Riders 4 Life" and stunt ride I can tell you those bikes are 1 of three things

1) Sponsored (If they are big time, bike shops throw bikes at the good stunt riders)

2) Cobbled together. At one time I had 9 assembled or partially assembled 900RR's from scrap yards in my garage

3) Stolen.

Wouldn't the Affordable Care Act take care of the health insurance part? I think they need the spectators as it is a "Airshow". And I'm sure the bikes are paid for, and the insurance premium on the planes will cover them.
