I didn’t care much for all of the lightning holes on the radio tray, so I decided to fab a full floor and reinforce it a little. Working out good so far.

Anyone flying the red/black color scheme? (file pic attached) I'm close to ordering this color but curious how the black covering behaves in the hot summer sun.

I have the white grey and orange scheme, and will be a maiden this spring, but i think with the amount of white on it, it will stand out just fine, buy it! - Ha!

I ordered the red, white, blue scheme for my own piece of mind. I love the black color, however I have other planes with black Ultracote. My experience is it wrinkles in the hot sun, re-shrink, less wrinkles next time but wrinkles again. Plus I've experienced the clear film separate from the black pigment/adhesive on narrow trim stripes. I plan to use the 122" Decathalon as a glider tug with a DA 120 on KS3086 cans. I realize the cyl heads will protrude the cowl and spoil the scale appearance, but for towing 20+ lb. gliders, more power is what I want. Anyone install a DA120 on cans? Reinforcement needed? Pictures? |

I was able to use the top right and bottom two as they were designed. The top left was obstructed by the cylinder, so I ran the bolt in from the fuse and added a blind nut to the cowl ring. You need a long allen to reach it. I made one from an allen and brass rod. Ill post a pic tomorrow. It worked out well and looks very clean.

Cowl Bolt Mod
Here is what I did for the cowl attach for the Eme 70 twin install. I reversed the bolt for the upper left attachment and put it in from the fuse. I left the original blind nut in place and used it to thread the bolt into. I drilled out the hole in the cowl ring to accept a matching blind nut. Made a long allen driver out of a 3mm allen and brass tube. The handle is from a 2.5mm (all I hand on hand) drilled out to accept the brass tube with a steel insert. This is needed for the upper right one from the front also.
Worked out well and kept the clean lines of the cowling as original. Hope this helps. Dan |

Dan,
Thanks for sharing bud! I really appreciate that! I got the final missing pieces to finish the build! |
