f3a foamies. Which one??

Guys,

i am really getting into these lightweight 5-6oz airplanes. I plan on using a park 300 motor. I need to know what f3a type plane to put this on. I really like the f3a foamy from ikarus. I will probably end up doing a scratch build based on this foamy. I am wondering what battery packs would be good to run with this setup to keep it lightweight but still have plenty of power. I also want to know what servos you guys are running. pics are great as well! I like the biplanes but have never built one let alone scratchbuilt one. i guess i'm open to the idea though.

Thanks,

Brian

I had an F3A with a 300 and a castle creations thunderbird 9. I was using two cells to keep it light and i was not impressed. It would just go vertical at full power for about the first three minutes of flight. I would recommend one of the small three cell packs from www.2dogrc.com there's like a 360mih and something like a 470. They have a 30C discharge rate and i can say from personnal experience that they kick ass.

First off, I would suggest that if you have not already bought the 300, buy the Park 250 instead. I bought the Axi 2204, and I think the Eflite 250 would have been as powerful on a sub-5 ounce foamy, and less weight. If you already have the 300, no worries though, it'll still work fine.

Far batts, use any 2cell lipo around 300-400 mAh with 20C discharge or so, ideally no more than around 25 grams. I've been lucky with TP's. Use a 9x4.7 prop or so. Lots of power.

Servos, any 6.0 ounce servo or less will do. I went cheap, and bought the GWS Pico BB, but they are kinda slow. Dymond D47 are good (so I hear), and lighter too!

Scratch built is the way to go if you ask me. Lotsa good threads on RCGroups inthe Indoor/F3A forum, with links to plans amd build threads. Should be easy to get sub 5 ounces with proper equipment setup and light build techniques.

The F3P Vorlet from Fancy foam is a pretty sweet patten plane. Run some Diamond servos and wait for the slow downlines!

The Smove is pretty good too. It flies soo m=nice that I was doing the 06 ETOC sequence with it on the first flight. Then I let my dad fly it on three cells and the battery flew off and now the plane is scrap.

the insane foamies sypher looks nothing like an f3a plane but on low rates flys just like the CHP genesis (1.20?)
and itll turn some heads if you land in a knife edge position or even upside down
god i love that plane

Look at Jeff Pfeifer's blog.

The Techone Malibu II is a great F3P starter plane. Its milled out and cheep! You won’t find another milled plane printed for the price. You can build it light for indoor flight. I left off the upper fuse stiffeners and the bottom wing strut foam supports. I used a 250 size with 2 cell. Came in under 5 oz. Awesome slow flight capabilities.

hahaha i noticed that after i posted.... no wonder they were trying a heavier weight, 2007 foamy technology!!!! haha hey 3171scot, if your interested in this stuff, keep checking with me as me and my buds are about to come out with another design, its not f3p or anything, its a freestyle foamy, but its pretty percise that we can just mill it out like crazy, mill out the airbrakes and sfg's, and but f3p stuff on it. its called the snyper. also check out our eagle 580 https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...ad.php?t=62527 2011 foamy for you!
