Question: Eme auto starter install on DLE 30

Hi guys,
I’m installing an Eme auto starter on my DLE 30. After bolting everything together, I’m left with only a few threads on the hub nut, Is this normal? How are you supposed to make up for the addition space from the gear plate? Anyone else run into this?

Thanks Tony

Does anyone have experience with this issue? I've always parked my manual transmission in gear with the hand brake engaged and have never had problems with it slipping. Do hand brakes have a high enough rate of failure where precaution is key, or am I doing over kill

If I recall, in drag racing cars, safety rules say you must have at least 1/2" of stud showing when the lug nuts are tight. Gotta be a reason.

It looks like you may be missing a part. In the pictures on their website there appears to be a shaft extension. Have you called them to check?

I was taught a general rule regarding bolts by my drafting/engineering instructor. There must be at least the diameter of the bolt threaded in. This is a least rule and having more is desirable. Also, if either material is soft (soft aluminum or cheap iron or metal) then the rule is not enough. Bolts like that are cheap at the hardware store. Spend a few buck to get slightly longer bolts and be safe.

I wasn’t comfortable with how many threads it was going to tighten down on so I just didn’t install it and am just using my portable starter. Figured if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
