Futaba GPS SBS-01G or SBS-02G ?
Going to add Telemetry GPS to a jet and I am curious if anyone has any experience with these GPS modules ? I want to know speed and altitude of the jet on my 14SG radio. Also, what is the difference in the SBS-01G and 02G. They seem the same.

They say the 02G has increased accuracy. I've only tried the 02G. On my 18SZ I can set it up to speak both Alt and Spd, individually, or off. With as fast as our models are, you'll break an altitude cap before it refreshes with the quickest setting. I have found them good for an altitude reference, slightly erroneous readings +/- 30 feet. Speed is pretty solid it seems to me. I put them in a 75" edge, and a 84" TBM.

If all you are interested in just get the altitude sensor SBS-02A.
The radio will display the max and min telemetry readings on the display. You can also set it up to log the data if you wish. It downloads as a .csv file that you can import into Excel. https://futabausa.com/product/sbs-02a/ |

I have the SBS-01G . Used it both in my 14SG and 18 SZ. It will show the max Speed, Alt, Slant, Vario at the end of the flight but will erase when radio is turned off. During the flight you can display real-time on TX in addition to setting up alerts when you exceed the limit set. I have it in my Jet and it alerts me when I exceed 600 ft Alt or 150mph. I also use the count down timer and on the 14SG the timer will count off every 10 sec with 1 minute left and at 10 seconds it will count every second. 1 min....50 sec.....40 sec.... 10,9,8,7.6.5..........

I'm curious how fast the response is on this GPS, in other words if I have speech enabled on a switch and want to hear how fast i am going, will it be in real time on a pass? |

There is a small lag, plus it depends on the refresh rate you have set.

I believe there will not be any readings till you are out in the open and moving. Mine didn't work till i took it outside and started moving it.

You do need to make sure you are outside and the SBS-01G has a sold green light. Also, make sure you are plugged into the s.bus2 port and the RX is in the right mode for enabling the s.bus2 port. Here are pictures of the TX setup for validation. |
