Details are scarce at the moment, but Futaba has a new radio on the way in the T16IZ. It looks awesome but we don't have a full spec list just yet. More details to come, but what do you guys think from looking at the photos below?

The major difference on this compared to the original 16SZ is the addition of the software to talk directly to the CGY760R helicopter gyro.
The case is similar to the 32MZ but lacks the upper screen, has a different access to the battery and moved the charge and micro-SD card slot to the top of the TX under the antenna. It has the 14SG sticks just like the 16SZ. It has all the same programming as the 16SZ (with the added gyro programming mentioned above.) Unless you want the gyro programming or simply like the case format there is no reason to consider it an "upgrade" from the current 16SZ. There is a thread I started 5-weeks ago on the radio: https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...d.php?t=294385 |

I would be most excited if Futaba upgraded the gimbals on their radio. I have a 16sz and opened it to put in HD springs. All I found were gimbals made exclusively of plastic. Also, it would be great is the switch names screen printed on the radio use a higher grade of paint so they don't wipe-off the radio the first season.. Yes, the radios are awesome looking on the outside, but I care about the quality on the inside.

+1 There has been some discussion of the same on HeliFreak. Reality is the CGY760 is most popular in F3C precision heli competition and in Japan. I don't see this being a big seller in the states, and nothing compelling me to switch from my 18SZ. Looking at the photos I see they switched from LiFe to LiPo TX pack. I consider this a downgrade, I like the fact I can store my LiFe powered TXs fully charged and ready to go at a moments notice without degrading battery lifespan. |

FWIW, the 16SZ comes with a NiMH pack. With the USB charger on my 32MZ I can top it off on the way to the field using the USB charger for my phone in my car. I like that.

It also brings a new charing scheme (USB) a single cell Lipo (replaces NiMH) and a new format that has received very positive reviews from 32MZ owners. I have to say that the fit and feel of the 32MZ transmitter is to me the best Futaba has ever done. |
