You will be tail heavy at 99mm!! 95mm or less is a must with the 260!!

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

at 99mm it is way ahead of the wing tube, most planes balance at about 45% of the wing this balance is more like 35%, the spare is usually the balance point.
after balancing at 99mm I took a string and stretched it from wingtip to wingtip it was just in front of the wing tube.

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

not to call anyone a lier I called Ray, my Rep, at lunch today and asked him where he has his cg set at, he told me that he set his at 100mm, he also told me that Andrew Jesky has his set at 95mm and that Jason Shulman also is at the same, so I will take my plane off the table and set the cg at what everyone here recommended 95mm, I hope this does make you all mad for the call to my rep, I just wanted to make double sure on a good cg for IMAC.
Thanks for everyone who told me 95mm.
Now back to the build, I installed the Slimline Showtime smoke pump on the left side of the fuel tank with fuel tubing anti-vibration groumets under all four screws, I installed the smoke pump battery on the right side of the fuel tank, then finished plumming in the fuel tank and some on the smoke pump, I will finish plumming in the smoke pump before I do the cg check, I also installed the ignition battery mount on the side of the motor dome on the right side of the fuse along with the heavy duty JR switch just behind the cowl on the right side of the fuse with a doubled 1/32" ply backer plate and lock tight on the mounting screws. I need to install the provided plug to the switch for the ignition system along with some wire keepers, I tried to find some clear spiral wire wrap and could not find some at the auto parts store.I will look again at the hardware stores tomorrow for some also at radio shack.I mounted one of the DA fuel dots in between the canopy and the cowl in the center.

Yep 92-95mm is where you want it. As stated before mine is at 97mm and still is very close to being tail heavy. From my experience most planes CG is around the 30-35% of the wing not 45%

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

made all the mounts for the batteries, regs, switches and rx's, rebalanced the plane and set the cg at 94mm, I installed all the batteries, regs, switches, and rx,s. not much left to do, just hook everything up and make up all the extensions where they are needed. All extensions are made from 20awg wire, wrapped.

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

now I cannot wait until tomorrow.
I have all the wiring done to get power to both the recievers, and now all that is left is to hook up the extension to the throttle servo, drill the holes in the fuse for the aileron extensions, put male ends on the extensions, find 3 places to install the msa-10's and center everything, then range check and starting this DA-150 for the first time. I do not have the dot for the smoke yet as there has been a problem at wirk, hopefully by wed of next week I will have solved the problem and be able to go back to work.where wire has passed through bulk heads and stringers, i have glued large tubing in the holes for vibration dampenters. COME ON TOMORROW!!!!, almost 180 pictures have been taken of this plane during the building process, Thanks for all who have helped me with the build and cg starting points.

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

Brings me back to the day a couple weeks ago when I started mine up for the first time. The biggest engine I ran up before that was an 80cc. I started the engine and was surprised how quiet it was at idle with the pipes. On those cans it should be super quiet. But becarfull to not run the throttle up when you aren leaning back or it will take your legs out from under you.

Re: Composite-ARF Extra 260 3m Build

I recently moved to the US from the UK. When back in Blighty I built a 260 in the blue kiwi scheme. I LOVED that aeroplane sooo much - gutted when I sold it to move out here.

I ran my CG on 97mm and had twin 8711's per elevator half (which was overkill so probably wouldn't do again) and greves tuned pipes. I had no problem setting the CG. Thanks to threads like these I mounted my 2 RX packs (TP 4200 7.4 lipos) right up front strapped to the top of engine dome (underslung) and put the 3 8711's for the rudder up against the back of the UC plate.

Build looks great - you should be VERY happy when you get this bad boy up in the air. Then get the tuned pipes for insane power and awesome sound!
