The DA Engine may be a work of art, but we want it to be mostly hidden from view. By eyeballing and taking a few measurements, I determined where I needed to make my cut-outs for the engine and muffler. I hated to cut any of it, but because of the way we fly, and the way engines are designed, you can't really avoid it.
I do have a twin cylinder 50cc that I could have used, but I wanted finish the model in the most usual way.
Most guys who build the 50cc MX2, will use either the DA-50 or DLE 55. So that's what I'm going to go with.
I'll save the twin for another project.

Here, I've marked the cowling with a Sharpie and I'm getting ready to start cutting. You can mark your cut-outs with tape also. You need to be more careful with the Sharpie, or you'll have black lines everywhere when you're done.

Ok, sorry if this was addressed earlier, but does it have a pipe tunnel?

I don't think there is enough room for a pipe but there is plenty of room for a canister, and you could probably mod it for a pipe without alot of trouble

Devan is right. It doesn't have a pipe tunnel. Just canister. But, you could modify it if you had to have a pipe without much difficulty.

My cut-outs ended up looking like this. I left a thin strip between the exhaust opening and the engine head opening. You could open the whole thing up if you like, but I wanted to leave it for support.

I also ground out a small space where the ignition sensor was hitting the spinner exit. It only needed a little and you won't be able to see it later.

This is not absolutely necessary, but I decided to reinforce the edges of my cowl openings with glass cloth and epoxy resin. Especially the small strip between the large openings. I've had similar situations crack and break. I used glass tape and it was fairly easy. I'll grind any excess off after it cures overnight. It turned out great. Now, I don't have to worry about it being flimsy and cracking.

I glued-up this little laser cut servo mount that came with the kit. I assumed it was for throttle or something like that. It snapped together in no time. I plan to connect to the engine before I glue it in place. That way, I can use the same connector that I took off of the donor airplane. It's good to recycle. Saves a lot of time.

Last photo: I glued the throttle servo in place while it was connected. I also ran small screws from outside the engine box into the mounting tray just to feel better about the glue.

Really useful pics, thanks!

I notice you haven't put a nipple on the carb to route the air pressure sensing inside the fus. Have you found you don't need this mod?
