Cool
AeroWorks Carbon Cub SS

Nice video at a Fly In in Thibodaux, LA. Had the smoke system working right for at least one flight.

cheerybomb48, Plane looks and seems to fly great!!I am also concerning one of these birds in the future. Are you using a DA120 for power? Maybe a DLE-111? What kind of smoke pump are you using and what problems are you having? Looked good in this video! It appears you have it on a switch and have it programmed to your throttle stick. I am using a Harris smoke pump in my plane but just on a switch. It pumps so hard that I have it slowed down real low on the flow or it would flood out the engine but works great. What are you using a Smartfly? This plane looks like alot of fun to fly. Steve Mullis

Steve, I'm actually running an older DA 100 heavy. I would say that the DLE-111 wouldn't have an issue at all. I actually wanted to put a DA 120 but I had the 100 sitting in the shop. The 120 would be out of this world on the cub. AeroWorks doesn't recommend it but I've seen a few cubs with the 120. I'm running the TME smart-smoker pro and I figured out the issue since this video. I had my flow set too slow. Its pumping fine now. I'm not using a smartfly system. I have the JR 921X, two 2600 relions on RX power and one for ignition. It is a true pleasure to fly. Very sturdy airframe too.

cherrybomb48, Well if your running a old DA-100 and it flys that good I will do the same as I also have the same engine. Seems like a 120 would make it fly to fast and out of scale. Of course you can use throttle to slow it down. I prefer scale though in speed. This plane will be on my bucket list for sure. The TME smart-smoker system is a great system. Glad you got it working out now. If you have more videos of your cub I would love to see them. Steve Mullis

Anyone know how these compare to the Hempel airframes?

I own a Hempel and being here in Colorado I run across a bunch of AW Cubs. I've had no issues with the Hempel Cub, covering is top notch, airframe is straight and everything went together like it should. However, as with AW the hardware pack for the AW is top notch, Hempel did not come with hardware (or at least it didn't several years ago when I bought mine). The landing gear is stronger and mounted stronger to the airframe in the AW. Hempel uses metric fastners which I hate. I'd rate the AW better than the Hempel but they both fly great. I have no idea what the current prices are for the two airframes which of course plays into the equation also.
Either one is a hoot to fly so you can't go wrong. Jerry.

The AW landing gear are TOUGH! They saved my airframe over the summer. I pulled vertical about 40ft above the runway and my engine overheated and I had no power. I had just enough time to pitch the airframe flat and then it smacked the concrete. Bent the hell out of the gear but no damage to the airframe itself. We have been having the airframe for almost 3 years and it is a very sturdy airframe. Put lots of dings and dents and it still flies great. And as Jerry said, the hardware is great!

All planes come with a full hardware and our landing gear are as strong as needed. Here is the full sequence of this touch-N-go....

Also here is a sample picture of the type of hardware that comes standard in our kits now.

I have added the full sequence of the touch and go landing now... Yes, that was a HARD-IMPACT! No damage to air frame or landing gear.

Your hardware pack shows carbon fiber landing gear, is that gear on the Cub?

There was an earlier post stating that the hardware packages were not available in my line of ARF kits. That picture shows the type of hardware that is now part of our ARF line of airplanes. For a Cub ARF, that gear would not be a part of that particular kit. But that is the type of hardware you would find in the kit: control arms, clevises, titanium pro links, aluminum wheels, etc, etc...
