This plane is a bit smaller than my Sebart Wind 110, so I don't think you need 10s. I just made life simple and used the recommended Hacker motor package. I fly 8s ( 2x 5000 4s packs). I'd be tempted to just use what they say in the manual. I'm sure the OS 120 2 stroke would be ideal if you chose glow. Unless you have run a YS, I would not recommend getter into them now. Once I'd flown a 110 on electric, I held onto my 2 meter F3A , YS 140 powered package for a while, then sold it on. |

For what it's worth, I ran a OS 160 on a tuned pipe with Karl Mueller headers in 2007 flying FAI/F3A at the NATS on a PL Smaragdz and in 2008 on a PL Partner, until I switched to YS .
Another popular engine was the Super Tiger 2300 with a Perry carburetor and Perry pump, great power plant. http://www.supertigre.com/engines/supg0248.html |

My experience with kits like this is that the engine spec is great for sport flying, but I have found very limited on vertical performance. My concern with a YS is the vibration to the air-frame. Based on weight alone a YS 140 is about right for this plane, but not available new. The next best is the FZ 175, but it will be very strong for this air-frame. If you go with a YS, I highly recommend a Hyde Soft Mount for it. The best advise I can really offer is to find somebody who is flying it and ask about their set up. I'll bet somebody is flying one in pattern... LD |

Hello again
Just to add that the soft mounts are pretty much essential with a YS. My concern for anyone thinking of going YS is that looking at the Central Hobbies website, is that all of the Hyde Soft mounts are unavailable. Unless you can buy them direct from Hyde that could be a real problem. |

I have a like new YS 160DZ that is pickled I'd let go of with header and Hatori pipe.

The Hatori 821 standard YS pattern muffler is still at Central Hobbies BUT not on the Hatori site. Not just Hyde mounts not available. The current generation of YS engines are nearly perfect and nobody flies glow anymore. Glow props are getting hard to find. LHS not sure they will keep stocking fuel.
I just bought a YS FZ80 and intend to put it on a Kaos 60 with a 12x8/10 prop. Should be over powered. |

Not currently enough quality/affordable GP options. Most current designs take the YS super mount, CK Aero sells those.
The new YS 195 CDI should be special. |

why can't I use a 20cc gas with this type of airplane?

20cc gas engines are a lot heavier than their glow or electric brothers. With that you absolutely can buy just know you will be heavy

The biggest reason is because most pattern ships are made for electric and not built up enough to deal with vibration. I will say this, a DA 35 with a canister weighs the same or less than a YS 120. I was able to put together an AJ 72" laser and keep it nsrca legal, and competitive. I would like to see some offerings for a gasoline powered pattern ship.
