What are the lipo batteries of choice? Quality vs price
Safety issues? Longevity? Recommended.

Buddy RC carries Glacier, Gens Ace and Tattu lipo batteries. The three brands I have heard come from the same factory but I am not sure of that. At my field five of us flying giant scale all use Glacier and Tattu for receiver batteries, with most of us transitioning over to the Tattu 2S 5200mah batteries. I trust my PAU Viper and 35% PAU Edge 540T and my 43% PAU Edge on the build table with Tattu batteries. All the Tattu and Glacier batteries have been very consistent and deliver their rated capacity or more.
At my field the electric fliers are all using extremely puffed almost round Turnigy and Floureon batteries and all complain they have no capacity (Usually lipo batteries are not shaped like a tennis ball). Treating lipo batteries correctly I believe is as important as the brand. The batteries and customer service from Buddy RC are first rate. Hope this helps.

I need some batteries this year and forgot about Buddy RC. I've heard pretty good things about the glacier line.

First off, the question is vague due to capacity, cells, discharge rate desired, and application. If you could elaborate on your intended use, the responses will be more focused/helpful.


Other brands to consider are CHL (China Hobby Line), Dinogy, I've had good luck with Revolectrix too although they are a bit heavier. The Turigy HD (blue) batteries are good too, especially when considering the price, have not tried the panther/graphene yet. Pulse is always a good choice, light, consistent, but expensive.

As previously said with proper LiPo use and care you'll get the most out of your batteries. I have a little LiPo battery voltage meter that I use and try not to go below 30% left... primitive, but it works for me as a base guideline to prevent puffy batteries.

You’re right. Application is perhaps most important. Difference between receiver applications and power plant. My original question concerns power application for large RC aircraft ;THIS IS IN REGARDS TO THE POWER PLANT IE MOTOR FOR 72 INCH WINGSPAN AND BIGGER AIRCRAFT

Just to clarify:
Receiver Power, or Electric Motor power?

Obviously receiver power would be the same for Gas as Electric Motor. But the size of the plane and the flying style still matter IMO.

More specifics like Large what: Aerobatic, Sport, Scale, 3D, or XA. In what size range (wingspan, cc's)?

So many variables!

I usually use ovonic 2200mah 3s which I can get 25 minutes of flight time on my old Great Planes E-Cub that I converted to a brushless/ESC setup. Battery checks out to what the advertised specs are. Don't have a way to test max current output, but it's way more than adequate for what I use it for.
