Not to start a clunk war or anything but we are not a fan of in tank filters because of the maintenance issues. Too many guys have had problems with felt clunks coming apart and such so we stick to a finial screen filter like the Sulivan crap trap just before the carb nipple. Using Viton tubing inside the tank along with a good non filtering clunk and the PSP cap and fittings make for a tank that once built should not need to be opened up again for maintenance. Ceramic clunks are okay I guess but again, they are filters too so subject to needing cleaned from time to time.

That may be true, but a felt or ceramic clunk also blocks bubbles and foam from entering the line and heading for the carb. And I see PLENTY of foamy bubbles in my tanks when the engine is running!

Foam and or bubbles are not nearly as critical as is with glow as an example. The reservoir built into the Walbro carb is a natural filter of these kind of things. Short of complete fuel starvation the engine barely notices bubbles.

run a good quality filter on your gas can between pump outlet and filler nozzle. change it out for a new one every winter.

you guys and your felt, ceramic clunks, final filters, etc etc etc. waste of cash

while youre changing the can filter out you can also pop the carb cover off and pull the screen annually too.

IMHO you guys make it too hard and cause yourselves troubles by adding unnecessary stuff to the airframe.

I filter my fuel 3 times before it reaches the carb . First is the felt clunk inside my gas can, second is an inline filter BEFORE my electric pump, and third is the felt clunk in the tank in my plane. I always run a 3 line tank also.

its not bad idea to protect your fuel pump like you did. im just trying to state the simplicity. keep the filters on the can and forget the plane bling.

I go to a local outdoor power equipment shop. That's where I get my Stihl HP Ultra, spools of tygon on the cheap and both types of filters. So it's far from bling and one helluva lot cheaper than ordering from even an online hobby shop/distributor.

I wish my local power equipment store (I get the Stihl HP Ultra there too) sold Viton. Viton is basically inert to gasoline, here is Viton after 3 years inside the tank. I replace the external Tygon lines every Winter because they get stiff.

Ok, so this is one thing I've been wondering . . . I know that bubbles are caught by the "float" reservoir in the carb - but, this is a relatively small chamber; how many bubbles can it absorb before air is fed to the engine and it stops running? The chamber is not vented, so I don't know where else they would go.

Not arguing here, just want to understand.

I don't think a few bubbles in your fuel line will have any effect at all considering how long the clunk stays out of the fuel on down lines.
