Congrats on completion! She is a beauty! I can't wait to see this fine airframe in person at the Maine contest.

FYI, I was absolutely shocked how easy and smooth these 40% planes fly. Prior to my Dalton, the biggest plane I flew was a 91". Everyone always says bigger flies nicer, and they are correct. Didn't make me shake any less when it went up for the first time though. I was so nervous, I forgot to even ask for a video.

Looking forward to getting that over with. The first run of the engine required some tuning. It was initially pretty lean for some reason. Figured that out. Then when I installed the cowling it wouldn't idle well. Must of had a vortex happening to the carb inlet. I ended up running a pressure line to the cabin. This fixed it! Engine idles beautifully and I can't wait until this new DA 150L breaks in a bit. The exhaust sounds great and the zip of the 3 blade prop is nice. 2 flip choke/ 5 flip start every time.

Finish weight of the air frame without CG stabilized was 37 lbs. 4 ounces. It required 1 lb 4 oz lead in the nose to achieve a finish dry weight of 38 lbs. 8 oz. If I end up putting a DA 200 in the front or moved to a pull/pull rudder setup this airplane would balance out perfectly with the batteries moving back in the cabin. Really happy with the weight, all the time I took to keep the lightest wood not adding anything special and taking care with glue application. I think the glue application was the key to a good weight. I tried to be very careful where and how much I used with no extra. At 38.5 lbs it should have unlimited vertical and be the workhorse I need to pound out some sequences.

I decided to run Futaba S.Bus. This saves some weight. Weird having a single wire coming from the tail. I am also going to be running only a single 7008 receiver. Keeping everything simple. Double Fromeco 5200's through a Wolverine and an Tech Aero for the ignition. Simple, proven, clean, simple. Flip, fly, repeat. Mejzlik 28.5x12S three blade and a 5" Mejzlik spinner. The spinner is super light at 4oz. I could put a Tru Turn Aluminum and take out some lead but I love the bullet shape of this spinner and it adds to the "Phat" feel of this air frame.

The Starboard wing panel weight 3 lb 4 oz rtf and the Port came in at 3 lb 6 oz rtf. I think the decal was the difference. I did no coring and used poly glue.

Installed carpeting in the trailer and the axle holds for transport. Ready to go!
What is that black trim on the landing gear cuffs?

Maiden Day!!!

This post concludes a 1 year adventure in building a Carden pro with a wooden cowling.

Holy crap do these fly nice. Happy to say uneventful maiden with perfect weather. The DA 150L and a 28.5x12x3 Mejzlick pulled this aircraft with effortless ability and I am now the quietest airplane at the field with the K&S 95 canisters. I was barely ever above 1/2 throttle putting her through some paces of the Sportsman sequence.

2 down clicks of elevator, 0 clicks aileron and rudder for stable level flight. She's straight!!

I am super happy. Time to grind some sequences!!!
