I like your idea of making them fly their unknows with hangovers. Since we do, I see no reason why they shouldn't.

Statements like that are
1- Simply not true and..
2- Can put pre-conceived notions in the heads of people who may have to judge.
EVERYONE CAN BE BEAT.

More times than not you can pretty much figure the round results before anyone even flies based on whos flying and who's judging.
Someones past experience and previous record should have nothing to do with whats being flown at the time.

I also see the reverse of the so called "Halo" effect. Someone who is generally towards the back of the class in the reults can have a great sequence but it never gets scored that way. Its almost like they are disregarded even before they enter the box and it really doesnt matter how they fly.

JUDGE THE PLANE IN THE AIR AND WHAT ITS DOING NOT THE PERSON FLYING IT.

Hi Seth.... GREAT flying at the NATS. What must be remembered, is that if one judge gives a pilot a 5 and the other judge gives a 0 for sound, the pilot's score will be defaulted to a 5 in the scoring program. This does not necessarily mean that an aircraft is quiet if a pilot gets a 5.

It is important that we ALL are cognizant of the need to quieten our aircraft since it affects our neighbors and ultimately, the longevity of our flying fields.

The scoring program does not automatically default it to a 5. I thought this was the case earlier this year but I was corrected. The person entering the scores needs to enter them correctly (in the case above the scorekeeper should enter a 5 for both judges).

Thats correct.
I was told that the scoring program will not under any circumstance change a score by itself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had these thoughts. Some times I have felt/sensed this at some of the events that I have flown at. While we hope that such preconceived notions of each pilots flying skills don't exist I find it hard for judges not to have it atleast in the back of there mind while scoring a round.

Re: clinton imac

I don't disagree with you guys about the "preconcieved notion" and all, but these two young pilots really do fly better than most of the rest of us. This has forced me to go out and practice every day - 3 to 5 double sequences and then some unknown fodder... and I'm flying better than ever, but until I can get a processor upgrade and retrofit my neuromuscular system, I can only hope for an "opening" once in a while! I don't begrudge them there excellent eyesight, reflexes, timing and muscle memory - but I do wish I could be young again... too bad youth is wasted on the young...

Exactly. Everyone has told me I was going to give everyone in Unlimited a run for their money. Looks like I'm the one getting my butt handed to now!
