Re: Composite ARF Gee Bee R2 Build

Need your opinion on color choice. I was thinking 57 Chevy Turquoise & 55 Chevy Cream with a Jade Green pinstripe outlining Scallops. Paint will be single stage PPG.

Thanks,

Perry

Looks really good PTS!

I will also start out with a Menz 30X12, but will probably have a 28X14 or 16, and will try a 30X14 as well.

Next for me is to square up the horizontal stab. Then make up the pipe mounts for the KS1090 tuned pipes.

RJ -- I now have a power 90 and will run an 8 cell rather than a power 160 and a 10 cell setup, so hopefully this will get me into the right range in terms of weight....I'll be working on it this next week and I will let you know when I am ready for a(nother) maiden. dan

Re: Composite ARF Gee Bee R2 Build

So at this point the plane is basically built.

I set up the rudder pin, and aligned the horizontal stab and it is all glued in place.

Today I worked on getting the KS1090's fitted into the fuse. I'm running a DA150, with MTW 90mm drop flex headers.

Even though this fuse is HUGE you'd think there shouldn't be any issue mounting the pipes... but the KS1090's are also fat. There is the main spar that you need to get the pipes under and the shape of the back of the fuse is really round with a decreasing diameter. Overall, it was pretty straight forward. I just hope it will balance.

Re: Composite ARF Gee Bee R2 Build

I've spend a little time hear and there on the Gee Bee. Ryan came over the other day and we put most of the gear in the plane to simulate the weight for balance.

I believe that it will balance with the pipes. Based on where we had to place things in the plane, I'm installing them.

So, in the pictures you will see the back of the motor dome. I have an older kit that didn't include the wood supports, so I made some out of light 1/2" balsa. The throttle servo and ignition are mounted on the motor dome as well.

The two 3/8" spruce rails will make the tank/ reciever and battery tray.
