The Sukhoi 26m Project

Well; here we are!!! 3 years since the idea pop up in my head, the build process started.
My weapon of choice for the 2021 IMAC Italian season, the Su-26m was chosen against the typical Su-26mx you will usually see everywhere since I like more the profile of the cockpit.
Designed from white paper starting from a simple 3 view drawing, I specillay focused on scale look but also on flying performance so, wing foil is OR71-14% while for stab and rudder is classical NACA0010.
Ship is to be full wood + composite LG and cowl; with the following general features:
- Wingspan 2,65m // 105in
- Weight (stimated): 13Kg
- Engine: 120cc (My choice; DLE120)
- 8 High torque servos.

SHORT KITS AVAILABLE SOON, KEEP TUNED!!!

Thinking about livery... Impossible not to look to good old Su that won World cups back on 1986/87/88/89...

I loved that Iivery!!!
But honestly I'm looking forward to do something more classic.
BTW; that livery was done by my friend and good known art/designer Mirco Pecorari some years ago.
So; after thinking a bit... What do you think about this?

The Blue scale scheme looks good, But i think orange would be amazing!!!, Will look great in the air.

Do you have some 3D CAD drawings showing your design

Well; before going to the CAD work detail, let's see how the plane is/was set up...
Here attached you have the top view of the original full scale against mine; notice that mine was made sligthly longer; a modification that together with the wing foils selection will make the plane better to "thrace lines".
I made the same comparison against CARF Su-31 and PAU' Su-26; proportions are quite the same... Except that CARF's fuselaje is by far, really out-scale thinner.

Looks great, Yep that longer tail will track much better, Just like a Yak 55 Lots of wing area too.

Why did you go for Tapered Ailerons? Does it give better roll precision?

bigger wing area will give slower speed while in horizontal flight; power (when available) will give good vertical speed while big frontal surface (so: shape drag) will slow dives. Idea is to have all speeds as uniform as possible during programs.
Yet, note how close to scale I am... You don't have to make ANY effort at all to identify a Su-26 on it.

It's possible. Taper aileron follows better pressure distribution on the wing.
Yet, my scope was not to give too much torsion load on the wing tip. Note also that aileron is longer than the full scale (starts closer to the fuselage)... So i might have more Aileron surface.
Regrding to presicion: wait to see the hinge system...

Very nice scale out line and im sure you have a pretty thick wing chord? Will give lots of lift and slow speed stability if needed

I understand so the tip of the wing has less pressure and becomes more gradual pressure increase as you get close to the fuse?

Well its gotta be a Pocket hinge system

Well... let's start working.
Being the 3D surface model is ready I deceided where to cut the main assemblies: Wing, Stab, Fuse, canopy, cowl... Each one was colored and are to be developed furtherly.
Also I modelled some main "heavy" components... here a rough model of complete power plant based upon DLE dimensions (no need to make it in detail... a rough volume was more than enough!!)
Next appointment: work on the cowling!!!
