My good friend Jody, did you have a bad experience with DLE?
We use to run these engines all the time with great success?

I've never had a bad experience with DLE, but I've had many experiences with many other engines as well. I'm not trying to bash DLE, I merely want people to look at them in the proper perspective. They are a good low budget choice, and likely the best from mainland China. But, too many people see a new model come to market and have to have it immediately thinking it's better than anything else just because it's new, history has proven this is rarely the case initially.

What I wish DLE would do is be more of a leader in the industry in more ways than just manufacturing. They should be coming out with ground breaking and innovative designs that improve the experiences of their market stakeholders. Instead they are slow to the market with new designs following behind other inferior manufacturers. And when they do introduce new models they're using outdated design concepts that put them barely on par at best with their competition. Dong Lin has the recources to design and produce truly meaningful advances in the model hobby market, yet he chooses to follow on the coat tails of others. I don't get it.

Thanks for the Turkey Day wishes, I hope you and Linda have a blessed day with family and friends. Unfortunately for me this year, I'm in a part of the world that does not recognize our Thanksgiving. Maybe, if I can catch a chicken and ......

None of the engines on the lists are ground breaking or innovative in any way that I know of. Just good reliable engines which suit me just fine.

The listed engines were an answer to a question that had nothing to do with grounbreaking innovation. Merely, which manufacturers/engines I felt were better designs than DLE is producing.

not so MVVS,has the best design ports and timing in the industry.thats why they are one of the HP leader.
the only guy around that tried to copy there cylinder and port timing was Tommy, from MT engines on there 57.kind of funny isn't it.

Whenever I think of innovation in model engines, I have to relate back to glo engines and their developments over the years. Other than Schneurle porting and perhaps ABC cylinder setups, for the most part and over decades to today, the engines that were / are the most successful are the ones that stuck to the tried and true designs that worked and worked well. Certainly there were improvements along the way but the core designs didn't change much. For the most part, the innovations came and went and the tried and true stayed the course. Duke Fox was one of the innovators in the industry but few of his unusual designs were really well accepted and few other companies copied his designs even if he could not make them work well.

The same is pretty much true for full scale aircraft engines. While there are certainly improvements along the way, the core engine designs are pretty much as they have been for decades. Of course I know type acceptance and certification has a role to play here but the odd, unusual and innovative seems to come and well ...... go.

Quality and reliable, conventional gas engine designs, regardless of where produced will have their place in our hobby for a very long time to come.

If any stated motor produces desired results at a reasonable weight I'm for it. The elegance of design isn't of importance to me as a toy airplane modeler. The function is though. That being able to keep chucking out the performance for a reasonable amount of time before service.
