Am I only one who finds LiPo's ????

Now before I tell the tale ... let me first say - that I am not usually absent-minded or ignore LiPo use guidelines. I may not use ammo boxes and flower pots - but I am conscious of their destructive capability.

OK ... that said :

Yesterday - I decided to try and find out why my GuanLi Catalina cannot take off from grass. The modifications etc. are subject of another thread.

Anyway - I pick up the model and do the biz etc. On opening up the hatch ... BLIMEY !! There's one of my 3S 2200 Blue TGY LiPo's in there. I checked my YT and last flight was : 27 May 2017 !!

I think it’s about leaving lipos in planes at the end of the day.

ohh dont get me wrong............nothing bizarre about leaving batteries in stuff.

In fact- I havent really flown much in the last 2 years............I pulled my radio out which runs on a 3cell lipo, like 2 months ago, for the first time in over a year. Found the radio's power switch in the ON position. The battery door was bulging a bit, and once I got it off, found the battery inside fully inflated. I got lucky. No clue how that switch was turned on.

And this is probably when fires start. From people that know very well in the care of lipo's,but just get relax in the way they take care of them. How many potential fire sticks do you have laying around and in what state of charge.I'm lazy and know it,that's why I will never have any in my planes.a123's work well for me.but I don't fly electric and don't need the added voltage.May be they need just to make smart lipo's with wall chargers for planes. That would end a lot of the problems with lipo's.

Crosswind I think those are mainly Lithium Ion batteries, not lithium polymers. Quite a bit less volatile.

Yep. They use Li Ion. I hate LiPos, Use A123s or other Li Fe batteries if I can, when I need LiPos for the little planes they stay stored in an amunition box and are always charged outside away from anything I actually care about. Nowt wrong with paranoia, stops my house getting burned down. I did have one puff and smoke when charging, managed to unplug it before anything serious happened. yet to have a fire but I have seen a couple go up down at the field.

I think the thread is just an excuse to post an old video of his plane. Which is fine.

Everything I have, batteries are stored in the airplanes. What is the risk in storing them in an airplane or heli? The dangerous potential is in charging. Improper charging techniques or procedures is what will bite you in the keester!

I recently bought a 88" EF Edge used RTF minus rx.It came with two 2s 2300 lipo's,the seller wanted me to just fly the plane as is, said I would like it.I do like the plane but the lipo's are a pain, in baby sitting while charging. But that may be due to me being scared of a fire and only charge at a 1c rate.If I don't use enough power of the battery then I need to discharge them, and I never use enough.Life or a123's are so much easier to deal with and way faster to charge.About the only good I can say for lipo's is how long they hold a charge. I know probably most guy's use lipo's but I have always been real slow to change when what I have gives me no trouble.
