It says the plane is a total loss. I hope he was able to salvage the rabbits foot. That is one piece of equipment that worked well and may be needed again.

From what I understand these guys have their engines pretty highly tuned so I guess it's probably not completely unexpected that they may pop one occasionally as they experiment to see what gets them power. Though i'm sure they would do very considerable ground testing before giving them the ok for flight. I also imagine they would have pretty low time between overhauls.

The picture of it on flat grass is where it was deposited by the helicopter.

It landed in trees and brush almost vertically at the accident site so it looked like he could push the canopy open.
