Aeroworks 100 Edge 540 wing exploded in flight

Just flying flat and level. Pulled back throttle and pulled up elevator and pop.

Sorry for your loss, it's always devastating. Aeroworks has the rep for being built stout over being ultra light. But, that probably doesn't make you feel any better when looking at a crashed plane.

This is the video that brought me to the decision to buy this plane. And for what I did. It shouldn't have done what it did.

Same thing happened to a friend a couple of months ago with the same aircraft. He was able to land. I believe Aeroworks sent him new wings but not certain. He had problems with two of those exact same models.
His user name here is KenSue if you want to PM him.

Many years ago I had an Ugly Stick do essentially the same thing, except it was in a dive at the time, best guess when we all congregated and talked it out was the covering had a puncture that let go, covering ripped which pressurized the wing causing it to explode.

Its bad enough when dumb thumb takes an airplane, but when you haven't done anything wrong, I think it hurts even more.

Awesome, except I can't fly like that.

You really don't know that...wing is several months old. Yeah it sucks but expecting a manufacturer to be responsible for a wing failure after several months is a bit of a stretch. Larry I hope it's a short time before you are back in the air.

What most people forget about that video is that was the maiden flight after the airplane was built on site in 8 hours. The reason a new airplane had to be built you ask? Wing Failure on the original airplane.

I flew a 100cc Aeroworks Edge for years and beat the crap out of it and never had a single issue. It is still my favorite flying airplane that Aeroworks has ever produced. Unfortunately they are known to have the occasional wing failure.....

I pieced it together for shits and giggles. Looks like it was pulled off. Radio equipment is fine and batteries are fine. Motor, not so much

There are quite a few threads here about these wings. I witnessed an AW 300 40%er do the same this year. Sportman Imac plane.I've had a lot of AW planes over the years and have decided not to purchase any more due to wing issues.
