Has anyone experienced this before with tower hobbies, or Futaba pre orders. The date is jumping all over the place. Not sure what to believe anymore.

While I certainly don't know if this is Futaba's issue, there's been a worldwide electronics components shortage all this year.

Electronic Component Shortage

As part of a global Fortune 200 company, with a lot of purchasing power, we are on allocation across the board on components from micros to even the most basic of SMD's. This includes ST Micro's, SMT caps, resistors, from Panasonic, Vishay, you name it. We have a major product launch that's being crippled because we can't get enough supply of basic components to reach critical mass. It was predicted last year, when it became clear that investment in global capacity to make components wasn't keeping up with global demand. Some companies hedged and stockpiled and/or locked in contracts early.

Whether my plants can build certain models or not depends, almost daily, on what we're able to secure. So one minute we're in awful shape with zero inventory of an inductor, and the next day we score 18,000 pieces but oops, something else becomes unavailable. It makes it very tricky to meet customer commitments.

Perhaps, and I'm purely guessing here, this may be something that Futaba is also facing.

When the 14SG came out, it was fairly similar. I think it was only about two months late, but Tower kept sliding the date out so it was 2-4 weeks away for the entire two months.

And, finally, the radio just arrived even though only days before, Tower had slid out the date one last time.

The date jumping around and uncertainty is part of why I went with the 18SZ instead.

It's a great choice. With it being a bit smaller than the MZ's and for me, the programming is more intuitive, since a certain someone moved to Alabama, I've hardly touched my MZ's.....

The 16SZ is a full 10 ounces lighter than the MZ, which is a big reason why I fly my SZ more than my MZ.

I'm curious about the intuitive programming part. Except for minor differences in menu layout to me the programming is essentially identical. What differences did you notice Zee?

I can never figure out which menu I need to go to with the MZ's because the functions seem to be in areas I would not expect. The SZ just kind of flows if you will?

I get that. The menu structure is a little different.

It's all because you don't understand the Japanese way of thinking.

Looking forward to your hands on report
I'm hoping Futaba will be at the AMA Expo East in February, so I can see how one feels in my hands.
