Time to finally retire the 18mz after having it since 2011.

Have you had anytime to mess with the new radio or fly with it?

3 grand. I don't like the handle Plastic and cheap.
I am thinking of getting one . But 3 grand for plastic.
When Jumper copied the 18mz case almost for 150 bucks.

I have a brand new never used Futaba 16SZ that just sat on the shelf and went to pick it up and the labels smeared off the radio. If Futaba made small receivers for quads I would used it.
Futaba wont sell me the front cover so I can't replace it.
It is a Futaba service part only Futaba can put it on . BS I can do it.
I ranged tested the Futaba and it has no better in range than other brands. But they might have a more robust link that is everything.
Cant prove that because I never had a crash with Jumper or FrSky.

Interesting post shorte. While 3k is a steep price to pay for a radio, I paid that when the 18mz came out. I was surprised that they did not bump the price on the 32mz. If memory serves me correct, the 14mz was 2k when it came out, so by that logic I thought the 32mz would’ve been more. As far as your issues with the 16sz. That was a well talked about complaint about that radio, and an unfortunate one at that. Unfortunately due to liability issues, Futaba will not let just anyone replace things on the radios no matter how skilled you think you may be.

Also. Here is a link for the Futaba FPV receivers.

I was a component level tech for 15 years . Well educated working on PC board.
Anyway. I didn't know they had this new rx out. R2000SBM
This was the only thing keeping me to not using Futaba on my quads.

Makes no difference what you have done for an occupation. If your not certified by Futaba they will not allow you to do certain things on their equipment. I too was an electronic technician capable of troubleshooting and replacing components on circuit boards many moons ago. They won’t let me touch them either.

Yeah that one is just the old 2001SB with a lead soldered on instead of the pins. The good news is it will work with the new Jumper. No telemetry tho.

I have read such a comment multiple times about the 16SZ...
I wonder if the print ink is not good enough or the black plastic is of bad quality compared to older radios or it was done deliberately to get more people to buy the 18SZ version.......

this liability thing would be aceptable for electronics under warranty but it makes no sense once it's expired.

Unless you live in the USA where the FCC takes a dim view of people without FCC Licenses messing with radio gear, especially tx's.

Great argument but a false narrative. FrSky, Jumper and TBS have been selling parts for consumer installation in the US without issue from the FCC.
