70 twin muffler?

Ok I am putting together a new bird and wanted to ask a ?
We all know that stock mufflers are no more than a diverter and donít do much for noise and that is no issue for me as I fly in the middle of nowhere
So the ? Is has anyone ever flown a plane with straight headers and did it run ok and what did it sound like

The reason I would like to do this is it would be very easy to have the exhaust dump out in the scale location

If you make the header too short, you might find the engine won't idle very well. Air entering the exhaust port will cause the engine to idle very fast and erratic. A longer pipe (only needs to be a few inches) will prevent this air entry. The engine will be fine otherwise though depending on the particular engine's porting, you may gain or lose some power.

I remember someone telling me that open headers on these particular engines causes a significant loss of low to midrange power. So if all you want to do is rip at wide open throttle the whole flight then give er a whirl

Yeah, I know enjoy your hot rod exhaust. For the short time I was running open stacks,a fellow member that lives about five miles away (as the crow flies).Said he could hear me flying when he was down wind from field. That was the last time I flew that way.

The closest home from the field is probably double that
Plus I bet the stock mufflers can’t be much better
