Passing of Joe Bridi

Copied from RcGroups.... farewell Mr. Bridi:

This from David Bridi on (A well known portal that rhymes with Spacebook):

"Joseph Bridi AMA 288 Pioneer of Model Aviation and goodwill ambassador to Pattern,Scale, Formula One (NMPRA) has passed into the Eternal Gates of Chaos, Kaos this morning at 9:45am
Joe was 92 years old. For all the friends that kept in touch with him over the last few years you had made a difference in the last couple of years. He will always be remembered as everyone’s friend."

There is a saying that when an old man passes, a library burns. That is surely the case here. He leaves us a legacy of great aircraft designs that will never be equaled.

Joe Bridi was so influential in my hobby in the 70s and 80s
I'm truly thankful for all of his efforts and contributions...

I, with many others, will really miss Joe.
A quick personal vignette: At a pattern event many years ago at Whittier Narrows, Joe and I were in the air on opposite flight lines. He was flying a UFO (his favorite), and I was flying a BORROWED Super Curare, and we mid-aired! It totally destroyed Joe's model. I continued the flight like nothing had happened! All it did to the Curare was nick the leading edge of a wing panel.
From that day forward, whenever we met, he would greet me with " You SOB , you destroyed my FAVORITE airplane! Then we would embrace and reminisce about the good old days.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Joe. Your description above reminds me of many happenings in competition. Fierce competitors yet friends when the smoke settled. Those were good days.

Joe's designs rewarded me many times and I thank him for that. RIP the friend I never met in person.

Sad news. I built a bunch of his planes. Kaos, Super Kaos, Dirty Birdi (60 and 40), UFO. Smooth skies Mr. Bridi.

A real icon of the hobby. I called him cold turkey trying to find specs for a plane I had thought he marketed- he didn't, but was able to point me in the right direction- a Jack Stafford Buccaneer.
That was twenty years ago and I still remember our 30 minute conversation about the "old days".
A very nice gentleman. Peace be with you.

I was flying a Super Kaos at Whittier Narrows one day, and to my right there was Joe. I guess him being there got to me because when I landed I was off line and hit someone else's plane taxing on the runway, denting wings a bit (although mine got most of the damage). All I remember is Joe's voice saying, "Oh, a mid-ground"
